Announcements and Important Events
News travels fast these days, especially bad news. I am sure you are all aware that the governor has given the expected order that all in-person school is to be suspended for the remainder of the school year. The Michigan High School Athletic Association is following this order and has “canceled the remainder of the 2019-20 Winter and Spring sports seasons, in compliance with the Thursday (April 2) 'state of disaster' directive by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer closing school buildings and moving education online for the remainder of the school year to help decrease the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus.” See the full press-release here.
This job requires me to be even keeled but my emotions are very much on the surface these days. Sadness for our kids who missed out on opportunity and memory that we can't ever have back. Worry for my wife who works at a rest home and all the other front-line people in harm's way. A deep sense of responsibility for how to use this time well with my children. This problem seems so surreal I keep waiting for the pandemic to quietly slip away and us to resume our normal lives.
What is next for Eagle Athletics?
Each spring coach is setting up a Zoom meeting with their team where the coach, Daimond Dixon, Kevin Broene and I will meet with the team to process this situation. We will celebrate our seniors and talk about how we can help them in their next steps. We will share in the loss of our treasured time together doing something we love very much. We will do this with our boys swim and boys basketball teams also who didn't get to finish their seasons.
We will also use that time to look to the future. We want to continue to build relationships with each other. We can continue to improve our bodies, minds and skills so that when we can return, we will have used this gift of time to the utmost.
God Bless you all during this trying time. Please know that we pray for our children, our coaches and all their families daily for safety and health. If you or someone you know if struggling this time, please reach out so we can help support.
In His Name,
