Announcements and Important Events
Today is the first of two special winter team salutes for our teams who did not get to finish their outstanding seasons this year. Boys basketball's post season play ended before the district finals. Boys swimming and diving's season ended while they were driving to the state finals.
Today, we salute Boys Basketball:
The Eagle Boys Basketball team had a great season under second year head coach, Eric Taylor. The Eagles finished 18-2 in the regular season for a second-place finish in the OK Gold.
The post-season run started well for the Eagles with two wins in the district tournament at Godwin Heights. The MHSAA cancelled the tournament the day before we were to play FHE in the district final. The final poll in the state had the Eagles at #5 and a 20-2 record.
Coach Taylor comments on the season:
"We had 2 OK-Gold All-Conference players: Kobe Bufkin and Evan May; and Donovan Brown-Boyd was Honorable Mention. Kobe Bufkin also was named to All-State, Grand Rapids Dream Team and BCAM'S Best (Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan).
“It was a fun season to coach a group of good young student athletes! Our team was nominated as an Honorable Mention Academic All-State team which I am very proud of as the coach. We really prided ourselves on being a very good defensive team holding our opponents to an average of 47 points per game while averaging 65 points per game offensively. I thought we had good chemistry going into the postseason winning our first two games.
“This season will forever be remembered as the season ‘what if’. I would like to give a special thank you to all of our seniors for their leadership and how they represented our program and our school as student-athletes. We had three seniors earn BCAM Outstanding Senior Student Athlete Award: John Holmes, Jack Long, and Evan May. Also, I would like to give a special thank you to my varsity coaching staff Jimmy Karrip, Michael 'Pops' Sims and Mike Warren."
Eagles Boys Basketball, we salute you!!
