Announcements and Important Events
Coach Jacquie DeJonge is retiring after her 40th year (and 80 seasons!) of coaching Sideline and Competitive Cheer, having spent 14 years as Head Coach at Forest Hills Central and completing her 26th year as Head Coach at Grand Rapids Christian. She was the Varsity Cheer coach of the FHC Class B MCCA State Runner-up team. Her teams have qualified for the MHSAA State Championship four times. She also was voted Regional Coach of the Year.
In addition to being a coach, Jacquie is a registered MHSAA Official, serving as a Competitive Cheer judge across the state for 35 years. She has also served on the working board of Competitive Cheer Coaches Association of Michigan (CCCAM), as the Academic All-State Director, and as host for a number of district and regional MHSAA Competitive Cheer tournaments. Cheer is a family affair for the DeJonges — Tom DeJonge, our superintendent, is a long-time cheer announcer, including multiple MHSAA state finals, daughter Leah is a Cheer Coach at Wheaton Academy.
One accomplishment of which Coach Jacquie is very proud is the establishment of Grand Rapids Christian’s annual Fall Junior Cheer clinic, a clinic that welcomed more than 100 girls each year to learn cheer fundamentals, get to know girls from other area schools, and proudly cheer on the Eagles at a home Varsity football game. In 2019, the Fall Junior Cheer celebrated its 25th anniversary. Jacquie reports that, “The opportunity to coach and mentor hundreds of teenage girls in their Christian faith at Grand Rapids Christian High School is a memory that I cherish, one that will stay with me for the rest of my life.”
Grand Rapids Christian is so grateful to Coach Jacquie for her many years of coaching, mentoring and leading our girls, representing our school and community, and giving back to the sport of Cheer on a statewide level. God bless you, Coach!
