2020 Cross Country Seniors

We asked our cross country seniors a few questions and this is what each of them shared:

Boys Cross Country

Sam Bollman
Parents:  Mike and Mary Bollman

Sam’s favorite cross country memories are sleeping in hammocks at cross camp and paddling across long lake.  Sam’s biggest practice challenge were the LONG runs.  His favorite coach quote is from Deb Jager: “I like pranks…”

After graduation, Sam plans to attend Michigan State University where he will study computer science or computer engineering.  If he participates in a sport in college it will be running club.

Sam’s favorite Bible verse: “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” Proverbs 27:17  

Andrew Huyser
Parents:  Brian and Mayra Bollman

Andrew’s favorite cross country memory is Boys Big Bash (coaches prepare food for the boys team and hang out – watching football, playing ultimate frisbee, etc.).  The biggest challenge of practice for Andrew was the running.  His favorite coach quote is from Doug Jager: “We love to run in the rain.”

After graduation, Andrew is thinking of attending Calvin University to study engineering.  If he participates in a sport in college it would be cross country.

Andrew’s favorite Bible verse: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;  “In all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6

Jon LaRue
Parents: Tammy and Ryan LaRue

Jon’s favorite cross country memories come from the pasta parties every Friday and cross country camp.  Jon’s biggest challenges in practice were the 11 mile runs.  Jon’s favorite coach quote is”Stress equals adaptation.”

After graduation, Jon plans to attend Calvin University where he will study psychology.  If he participates in a sport at Calvin it will be track.

Jon’s favorite Bible verse: “The LORD detests lying lips, but he delights in people who are trustworthy.” Proverbs 12:22

Henry Peterson
Parents:  Marc and Dawn Peterson

Henry’s favorite memories of cross country are Boys Big Bashes and Pasta Parties.  The biggest challenge in practice were Tempos.  His favorite coach quote is from Doug Jager: “We love to run in the rain.”

After graduation, Henry plans to attend Michigan State University or Calvin University.

Henry’s favorite Bible verse:  “’For I know the plans I have for you’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’” Jeremiah 29:11

Jack Peterson
Parents: Marc and Dawn Peterson

Jack’s favorite cross country memories come from the Boys Big Bashes. The biggest practice challenge for Jack came this year when there were a few days the team had to run with masks on.  Jack’s favorite coach quote is ”Stress equals adaptation.”

After graduation Jack will attend Michigan State University and is interested in studying nursing

Jack’s favorite Bible verse: “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds,”  James 1:2

Noah Solle
Parents: Rick and Mel Solle 

Noah’s favorite memories from cross country are from going to camp every year.  Noah’s biggest practice challenge was the hills.  His favorite coach times were the long runs with Stapert — pushing the pace.

Girls Cross Country

Sammy Bishop
Parents:  Randy and Pam Bishop

Sammy’s favorite cross country memories come from running with the same people every day and getting to know them, and going to long meets and cheering on her teammates.  The most challenging part of practice for Sammy was doing hard workouts like hills and tempos.  Her favorite coach quote is "We love to run in the rain."

After graduation Sammy plans to study engineering, but is undecided as to where.

Sammy’s favorite Bible verse: “So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”  2 Corinthians 4:18

Haily McBride 
Parents: Julie McBride and Travis McBride 

Haily’s favorite cross country memories are from cross country camp and hanging out with her teammates.  The most challenging part of practice for Haily is the hill workout.  Her favorite coach quote is “We love to run in the rain.”

After graduation, Haily has not yet made her college decision.  She does think about playing basketball or softball at the next level.   

Haily’s favorite Bible verse: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:6-7

 

Carly Michele
Parents: Tom and Nicole Michele

Carly’s favorite cross country memories are [as an individual] winning the regional meet freshman year and then having the team place second at the state meet.

Carly’s favorite coach quote is “I love all the Eagle Laws!”

Olivia Waalkes
Parents: Jen and Tim Waalkes

Olivia’s favorite cross country memories are cross country camp talent shows, ice cream runs, and a race where it was SUPER muddy & so fun!!  Olivia’s favorite Coach quote is "Put yourself in a position for miracles to happen." -Doug Jager

Olivia is undecided about which college she will attend, but hopes to run cross country at that next level.

Olivia’s favorite Bible verse: "The Lord will fight for you; you need only be still." - Exodus 14:14
