Announcements and Important Events
We are excited to announce Abbey Wellman as our new head coach for GRCHS Girls Swimming and Diving! Abbey grew up in Crown Point, Indiana where she started competitively swimming at age 6 with the local club team. Abbey attended Crown Point High School where she swam four years as a varsity athlete. During her high school career her team was State Runner-Ups in 2014 and she also became an All-American Swimmer in 2016. After high school Abbey committed to swim at Calvin University! Over her four years she was a part of the All-MIAA team twice, a member of three MIAA Championship teams and team captain her senior year. Abbey primarily swam backstroke and IM but dabbled with a little sprint free towards the end. Outside of the pool she also helped coached Calvin Swim Club in the summer and winter. Her favorite Bible verse was given to her by one of her coaches back in college! It is Psalms 46:5 which reads “God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved; God will help her when morning dawns.”
Coach’s hope for this team is that these girls don’t just become more confident athletes, but more confident individuals. Coach says that swimming taught her more about herself than she could have ever expected. For any athlete who is joining the team for the first-time next year or a seasoned pro, Coach is confident that by the end of season our athletes will be able to write a letter to the sport thanking it for what is has taught them. We are all so excited for this upcoming season and to have Coach Wellman as a part of the GRCHS community.
