Favorite Memory: Getting each other hyped up at the top of the hill before we race

College: University of Michigan - Economics or Organizational Studies Major
Bible Verse: “I can do all things through him who gives me strength.” Philippians 4:13
From Coach: Noah improved literally every day he skied this year, as various skiing skills “clicked” throughout the year. It’s been a joy to watch Noah grow as a skier and a teammate during his 4 years on the team. I’m anxious to watch Noah over the next few years, as his ability to learn will surely lead him to some interesting opportunities.
Parents: Bill and Sheryl Boorsma
Favorite Memory: Meeting new people and hanging out with old friends
Practice Challenge: Skating uphill
Favorite Coach Quote/Mannerism: All 4 coaches are super nice and always helped me improve.
College Plans: GRCC and then train to become a firefighter.
Favorite Bible Verse: Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you. Exodus 20:12
From Coach: Owen was a first year skier as a Senior, joining the team with just a few days of previous experience. Owen learned quickly and improved steadily throughout the year. My favorite day with Owen was after the season ended and he, along with AJ, was out teaching a friend to ski. If I were brand new, I’d want Owen teaching me…..such a kind, loyal friend.
Parents: Laura Shankster-Cawley and Brian Cawley
Favorite Memory: Schuss training weekends (specifically Saturday mornings at Shanty Creek)
Practice Challenge: I think the hardest part of skiing is the mental aspect. The conditions can suck and practices can feel long (especially on cold nights) but in the end you have to decide how you are going to respond to the situation.
Favorite Coach Quote/Mannerism: Being told to hit the park by Coach Styf on drill night.
College Plans: Calvin University, majoring in Kinesiology (Pre PT/OT)
Favorite Bible Verse: From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I. Psalm 61:3
From Coach: A Varsity skier in each of her 4 years on our team, Erin has been a fearless competitor her entire career. A leader and role model for our newer racers, Erin demonstrated that a great attitude and constant learning are the foundations for success. Erin is capable in so many areas and God is going to use her to change our world.
Parents: Brian and Christine Mulder
Favorite Memory: My favorite memory has to be waiting in line at the start gate with the homies Coaches Chad and Daniel while we run through the checklist of getting clipped in and ready to go. They always played music, told jokes, and hyped us up. By the time we got to the front of the start gate, the coaches would tell us the last few pointers and we were off!
Practice Challenge: When you had a few bad runs in a row and have to change your mental state and make the next run better.
College: Deciding between CU Boulder, and MSU
Sport in College: freestyle skiing
Favorite Bible Verse: Lord, by such things people live; and my spirit finds life in them too. You restored me to health and let me live. Surely it was for my benefit that I suffered such anguish. In your love you kept me from the pit of destruction; you have put all my sins behind your back. Isaiah 38:16-17
From Coach: I told the story 50 times….Zack got up and walked on Sunday and came skiing on Thursday. Who does that? Zack’s positive outlook throughout the season was contagious, and his energy permeated the entire team. And, even though his season was cut short by injury, we will forever remember the living miracle Zack showed us.
Parents: Jim Styf and Margie Styf
Favorite Memory: Cheering my teammates (and non teammates) on at the top of the hill before their runs
Practice Challenge: Getting the hang of the course we had set for the night & working to get better
Favorite Coach Quote/Mannerism: “Do I look like a weatherman?”
College: Calvin University majoring in Nursing
Bible Verse: He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. Psalm 91:4
From Coach: Maggie’s enthusiasm for skiing and her teammates is unmatched, and she’s known as the “hype squad” of Michigan high school racing. Her leadership and encouragement make everyone try harder, and she was a key part of our historic season. I’m obviously going to miss her on the team, but I look forward to skiing with her for a lifetime.

Favorite Bible Verse: He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalm 46:10
From Coach: OT’s smile and positive attitude gives the whole team a lift, and she was a leader in developing the team mindset that was so evident with our women this year. Her welcoming spirit was an integral part of building our team community during the season. OT is gifted in so many areas beyond skiing, and demonstrates an openness that God is going to have fun with.
Favorite Memory: Learning the basics and at some point having each coach personally help me out.
Practice Challenge: Learning how to ski
Favorite Coach Quote/Mannerism: "Let's get it big man" - Coach Daniel
College: Liberty University, to become an elementary education teacher
Bible Verse: Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you. Philippians 4:9
From Coach: AJ joined our team for the first time as a Senior, even though he never skied in his life. Those first days are always hard, and AJ kept working and every day brought new excitement with every new skill. In late January I asked him if he thought about giving up. Like always, his character showed brilliantly with a resounding “no sir” answer. AJ took a risk to join our team and he’s leaving with a sport to enjoy for the rest of his life.
