We celebrated our girls basketball seniors! This is what their teammates had to say about them:
Rae Cummings
Parents: Steffhen Smith-Cummings and Gigi Cummings
Whether Rae is on the basketball court or out on the softball field with me, her presence is impossible to miss. Rae’s confidence radiates the moment she steps into the gym, and one of the things we love most about her is her total honesty—you always know exactly how Rae is feeling, and that authenticity keeps our team grounded.
As a captain, she has been the ultimate inviting and encouraging teammate, making sure everyone feels like they belong. But don't let her kindness fool you; when the game is on the line, Rae is a fierce competitor, and an insanely hard worker. We’re all going to miss watching her signature reverse layups that leave the crowd—and the defense—speechless. Rae, thank you for your leadership, your talent, and for being the heart of this team. We can’t wait to see what you do next!" We love you Rae.
Lilah Poel
Parents: Lucinda and Rob Poel
Lilah plans on attending the University of Michigan. She has played basketball all 4 years of her high school career, 3 of those years being on varsity. Lilah has been a vital part of the Grand Rapids Christian basketball program. She is a fierce competitor and incredibly hard worker. She sets the tone for the team with her drive and natural ability to lead.
Beyond her skills on the court, Lilah is known for being super funny and remarkably kind, always finding the perfect moment to use her humor to bring the team together. Whether she’s diving for a loose ball or lifting everyone's spirits, Lilah has made a lasting impact on this program through her dedication and the genuine brightness she brings to every practice and game.
Lydia Ydenberg
Parents: Shelly and Marc Ydenberg
Lydia has played basketball since middle school and has spent three of her high school years on varsity. She is also an outstanding athlete in both soccer and hockey all while balancing rigorous academics, including multiple AP courses. She is committed to Trine University for hockey.
I can truly say that she is one of the most-humble people I know. Her consistency day in and day out showing up is truly inspiring. Her personality is bubbly and fun but she truly makes this team better and has been a person for me to look up to for my whole high school experience even outside of basketball season.
I am so thankful for our special hi fives and our funny memories even when we were supposed to be locked in. I am blessed to have been able to call you a teammate and even more blessed to call you a sister in Christ. I love you and I hope that wherever God leads you, the people in your life will see the positive impact and hard work you bring in every situation.
Lily Batts
Parents: Kristin and Mike Batts
Lily has played basketball for _ years. She plans on attending _ and majoring in _. Lily was on Freshman, JV, and Varsity throughout her 4 years here. She has had a great impact on this program by showing up every day and working hard. Whether it’s lifting or practice, Lily is always giving her best and trying to make her teammates better.
Not only is she a great teammate, but also my best friend. I had the privilege to play JV basketball with her sophomore year and it was so much fun. I’ll never forget us screaming Nobody Gets Me by SZA or the fun bus rides where we’d talk the whole time. I’m so thankful we got another year to play together and grow even closer.
Lily, you have made such an impact on me and so many other girls in this program that we’ll never forget. Your perseverance and hard work don’t go unseen and you have such a bright future. I love you forever and know whatever college you go to is so lucky to have you.
Magnolia “Mags” Cumming
Parents: Mimi and Don Cumming
Magnolia Leigh Cumming, Mags has been in my life all four years of high school and before that I thought she was scary and mean. Mags came into GRC as a freshman from FHN, that's not an easy thing to do. From here she is going to Colorado Christian to pursue her basketball career.
Mags is a wonderful basketball player and we could talk about her stats and on the court things all day but mags isn't just a bunch of numbers. Mags herself is someone I look up to day in and out, she has high standards for everyone around her and just as much herself, she puts her heart into everything whether it's a game, schoolwork, friendship or almost anything else as well as someone I can always count on.
Mags just recently had surgery which took her out for half of her senior year, although she can't be on the court playing she still finds a way to help out the team and always shows up. She has impacted my life as well as many around us and I am so lucky God put her in our lives.
Thank you, Mags, for all you do and will continue to do in Colorado, I love you.
Destiny Singleton
Parents: Donald and Michelle Singleton
Destiny has been a part of the freshman and JV teams as a player and varsity basketball team as the team manager for Grand Rapids Christian. She has been a substantial player in this program and all three teams throughout her high school years.
Whether it was practice or games, Destiny would always play her hardest on the court no matter what. Whoever was around Destiny would experience her humor and brightness that she brought to the team. She would always be in a good mood no matter what, and she would always lighten the mood with her smile.
I’ve been on Destiny’s team in my freshman year on JV and when she was team manager on varsity. Every day at practice, I would be inspired by Destiny to have a positive attitude and bring others up with laughter and happiness. She always has the right jokes at the right time that makes me laugh. I am glad that Destiny has been on my team for the past 3 years, because it has made us better friends and I'm grateful I’ve gotten to experience the joy she brings to this program.
Blanca Serano Alabau
Host Family: Caleb and Kristen Parks and family
Blanca came to Grand Rapids Christian for this school year and even though she has only been here for a short amount of time she immediately became an irreplaceable part of the team.
I hadn't met Blanca before this basketball season, but I am so thankful for the friendship she has given me this year. I will never forget all the incredible memories she has given me. Blasting Bad Bunny in the locker room and playing his music on repeat at practice, has been a highlight of the season. All of Blanca's sarcastic jokes and the laughter that she brings makes practice so much more fun. Being her shooting partner during practice has been such a blessing. Her encouragement and her determination during a hard drill is something that is really inspiring.
Blanca we will all miss you so much next year and the basketball program will not be the same without you but it just makes me so much more thankful for the incredible memories that we could make this year.
Blanca I know that God has such great plans for you in the future and I can't wait to see what He has in store for you. Te amamos Blanca!
Seniors, thank you for your leadership and contributions to the Eagle basketball program. We wish you God’s blessings as you move on to the next phase of your lives. And thank you, family members for your support of your players and the basketball program. You have given these young women opportunities and experiences that they will remember for the rest of their lives.
