Grand Rapids Christian took the hill at Cannonsburg on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 for the first race of the season.  It was great to be back racing after all that was 2020. The conference has been split into three “Leagues” in order for us to compete safely during the COVID pandemic.  Grand Rapids Christian is in League 2 along with East Grand Rapids High School and Northview High School.

As with all races this year, the race was a combined event with the Junior Varsity Teams.  The evening turned out to be beautiful and the snow conditions were awesome!

Oh, and the Eagles skied great!!

Varsity boys finished 1st in both Slalom and Giant Slalom and Varsity girls finished 2nd in both Slalom and Giant Slalom.

Highlights of Tuesday’s Varsity portion of the race include:

• Ben Kuiper finished 2nd in Giant Slalom and 2nd in Slalom
• Joel VanHekken finished 4th in Giant Slalom
• Sam Seven finished 3rd in Slalom
• Erin Cawley finished 5th in Giant Slalom and 3rd in Slalom
• Olivia Tuit finished 8th Giant Slalom and 6th in Slalom

Highlights of Tuesday’s Junior Varsity portion of the race include:

• Brock Barron finished 1st in Giant Slalom and in Slalom
• Willem Gronsman finished 2nd in Giant Slalom
• Drew Leonard finished 4th in Slalom
• Annelise Kuiper finished 8th in Giant Slalom and 9th in Slalom
• Abigail Hoekzema finished 10th in Slalom
• Sarah Timmer finished 10th in Giant Slalom
