The Grand Rapids Christian Varsity soccer team traveled north to Sparta High to kick off the District Tournament. The Eagles were off to a quick start when Emma Van Goor beat her defender up the left side and put a dangerous ball in the box. After a scramble in the box, Claire Hart put the ball in the back of the net and the Eagles were up 1-0. The rain started picking up and after some back and forth action, the Sparta Spartans found the back of the net from distance. The teams went into halftime tied. 

Second half action started with the two fast goals from the Eagles. Mae Mae Henderson fought to beat two defenders to score off a shot from distance. A few minutes later, Kate LaRue played a ball in behind the Sparta defense to Julia Timmer up the right side. Julia put a ball across the face of the goal to find the head of Emma VanGoor putting the Eagles up 3-1. The rain continued to pick up, but the score would remain until the Spartans found the back of the net with less than ten minutes to play. The Eagles defended their 3-2 lead for the final minutes and are advancing to the second round of District play next week Tuesday, May 31st to face Allendate at Mehney field.
