The Grand Rapids Christian Eagles displayed a toughness and a "next man up" mentality in a hard fought road game against the Northview Wildcats.
The tone was set early by a relentless Eagles defense that forced the Wildcats to earn every possession. However, the Eagles faced significant setback in the first quarter when senior captain and leading scorer, Carl Thompson (averaging 23 PPG), was forced to leave the game due to injury. Despite this setback, the Eagles remained composed, ending the first period in an 11-11 deadlock. The defensive battle continued through the 2nd quarter, with Northview holding a narrow one-point margin at the half 22-21.
In the third quarter, the Eagles' offense struggled to find its rhythm, totaling nine points. However, the defensive remained disciplined, keeping the game within reach and trailing only 36-33 heading into the final quarter. The Eagles fought valiantly until the closing whistle, but Northview’s ability to get to the foul line converting 12 free throws in the 4th quarter allowed them to pull away for a 55-42 victory over the Eagles.
It was a true collective effort with players stepping up in expanded roles. Notably, Will Ferwerda and Charlie King provided a significant spark and energy off the bench. Braylon Taylor led the Eagles' scoring effort with 14 points, Ajak Gieu contributed 8 points while Connor Johnson added 7 points. The Eagles showed some grit tonight and will get back to the drawing board to get better.
