The Eagles pulled off a dramatic 37–35 victory over Forest Hills Central on Friday night, breaking a tie with just nine seconds remaining in an unforgettable finish.
The girls got off to a slow start, spending much of the first half playing catch-up as the Rangers controlled the early tempo. Momentum shifted after halftime, though, as a strong third quarter propelled the Eagles into the lead heading into the fourth.
Despite building a seven-point advantage late, the Eagles saw Forest Hills Central battle back and tie the game with nine seconds left. Out of the timeout, Charley Hassenrik perfectly executed the final play, narrowly missing the go-ahead shot. Keira Dawes was in the right place at the right time, securing the rebound and earning two clutch free throws, both of which she calmly knocked down to seal the win.
Dawes led the Eagles with a dominant double-double, finishing with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Alexis Willis added 10 points, while Lilah Poel contributed 8 points and 7 rebounds. Hassenrik and Adelyn Breuninger each chipped in 6 rebounds to help control the glass.
The exciting win marks the Eagles’ fourth straight victory and brings their record back to .500 at 8–8, capping off a thrilling night of basketball.
