The Varsity Eagles soccer team took to the field at Gainey on Wednesday afternoon, hosting a first-round District match-up against Kenowa Hills High School. The Eagles jumped out to an early lead on a goal by senior Nick Cassiday as he beat 3 KH defenders before slotting home a shot at the 1-minute mark of the game. The Eagles struck again in the 7th minute as senior Ben Klein served a corner kick to the head of senior Drew deBoer on a who pounded it past the KH goalkeeper in the 7th minute of the match. At the 14th minute, senior Grant Bishop played a ball throuch to a wide open deBoer who coolly notched his 2nd of the match to take a 3-0 lead. The first half scoring continued in the 20th minute as senior Ben Kuiper slammed home a ball into the upper corner of the KH net after being knocked down by a defender on a corner kick. The Eagles took the 4-0 lead into halftime.

With control of the play well in hand, senior Grant Hassenrik played an early ball through to Cassiday who notched his 2nd goal of the game just 10-minutes into the 2nd half. Just 7 minutes later, Kuiper struck again, picking up a misplayed clearance in the KH penalty area and slotting it home to up the Eagle lead to 6-0 with 24 minutes to play. The Eagles converted their final goal of the match when Klein threaded a pass through the KH defense to a streaking Xavier Wright who finished the play with a goal. 

With the win, the Eagles advance to the District semifinals on Tuesday, October 19th against Wyoming Kelloggsville. at 7:30 pm at Eagle Stadium.
