Boys Varsity Tennis vs. Multiple Opponents

Game Date
Sep 11, 2021

The Boys Varsity Tennis team traveled to Zeeland East High School Saturday for a Quad with Jenison, Spring Lake and the host school.  The Eagles played without their normal 1 and 2 Singles players which made the day even more interesting.  In the first dual, Isaiah Bos and Aaron Dorner battled admirably at 1 and 2 Singles respectively, each taking a game from their opponent.  The Eagles eventually prevailed over the Wildcats, winning 6-2, with Lucas Pinon, Callum Campbell, Tanner Warners/Dream Kwon, Cade Boender/Charile Walters, Sam VanSchepen/Ethan DeBlecourt, and Luke Gelderloos/Parker Seth all winning in straight sets.

Next up for the Eagles were the Chix of Zeeland East.  Lucas Pinon played at 1-Singles and won a thrilling 5-7, 6-4 (10-8) match over his opponent. In the makeshift lineup, Adam Workman played 2-Singles and dispatched his opponent in straight-set fashion 6-0, 6-0.  Spencer Slagboom won at 3-singles 6-1, 6-1.  Parker Seth and Aaron Dorner came through at 4-doubles without losing a game.  All other flights came through with straight set victories...except for the thrilling match that Callum Campbell played at 4-singles.  In a crazy match with all kinds of ebb and flow, the resilient Freshman persevered in a hard-fought marathon, winning 6-3, losing the second set 6-7 and then winning an awesome 14-12 tiebreaker (play to 10, win by 2).

Against Spring Lake, the Doubles teams cruised, assuring the Eagles at least a tie.  Richie Verhoef came through with a hard-fought 2-6, 7-6 (7-2),10-8 tiebreaker victory at 3-Singles.  Isaiah Bos won a close one at 4-singles 6-3, 7-6 (7-2) battling his opponent for every point.  Lucas Pinon won again at 1-Singles closing out a perfect 3-0 day for the Eagles with a 7-1 victory.

Next up for the Eagles is a conference match on Wednesday at Byron Center.  Match time is 4:15.
