BYRON CENTER HIGH SCHOOL: 3
The Eagles clutched a win against Byron Center yesterday with a score of 5-3. The courts were still wet around 4pm but after some rolling play was able to start at 5pm. Byron Center had some strong players and our team left their full effort out on the court. Ryann Breslin won 6-0, 6-0 at first singles, Ainsley Weeber won 6-3, 2-0 (default) at 2nd singles, Natalie Poortenga won 6-0, 6-0 at 3rd singles, and Alex Vermuelen won 6-3, 6-2 at 4th singles. The doubles flights were especially competitive and fun to watch. Matchplay at 1st and 2nd doubles went for two and half hours. 1st doubles Dafna Huele and Grace Poortenga worked hard in a match that could have gone either way with a final score of 6-4, 6-7, 4-6. Lauren Peal and Liz Rupp battled at 2nd doubles with a final score of 6-3, 5-7, 5-7. Marissa Sullivan and Ashley Wolfe won at 3rd doubles 6-3, 6-1, and Chloe Westhouse and Calista Bremer fought hard in a tight 5-7, 6-7 (6-8). This is another encouraging result for the Eagles against a conference opponent. The team is looking forward to squaring up with Byron center again at the Conference Tournament and getting them back in the doubles. The Forest Hills Eastern Quad is this Saturday and the team will be competing against Cranbrook and FHN and FHE. Go Eagles!
