The Grand Rapids Christian Eagles volleyball team opened their season at the Grand Haven Invitational, hosted by Grand Haven High School.
The Eagles began the day with a strong 2-1 victory over Division I powerhouse Caledonia. Grace Goodyke led the offense with 14 kills, while Mya McKinnon added 7 kills and an impressive .400 hitting percentage. The team carried their momentum into the next match, defeating Lowell in straight sets with dominant blocking that kept the Red Arrows on the defensive.
Advancing to the gold bracket, the Eagles faced top-ranked Rockford, falling 0-2, before taking on Grand Haven in a competitive three-set match. Grace Goodyke, Taylor Frost, and Elise Renz delivered a combined eight aces, helping the Eagles stage a strong comeback in the second set, though the team ultimately fell short ending the match 1-2.
The Eagles finished in the top three overall and will look to continue their progress as they prepare to face Kalamazoo Christian on Thursday, August 29.
