The Grand Rapids Christian Eagles kicked off their season with their first duel and a strong 3–1 victory over Kalamazoo Christian, posting set scores of 25–12, 20–25, 25–13, and 28–26.

The Eagles dominated the opening set with a .524 hitting percentage and three aces. After dropping the second set to the Comets, they bounced back with a decisive third-set win. The fourth set was a battle, with both teams trading points down the stretch. After a key kill by Grace Goodyke gave the Eagles the lead, freshman Elise Renz stepped to the serving line and delivered a match-winning ace.

Consistent serve receive was key, with Zoey Klunder and Grace Goodyke leading the way, each averaging 2.4 passes out of a perfect 3. That solid foundation allowed Piper Cebulski to tally 33 assists, helping the team hit .265 overall. Goodyke led with 17 kills, while Mya McKinnon followed with 13 and an impressive .632 hitting percentage. Renz and Rylee Anderson each served up three aces.

After this solid win the Eagles now look ahead to another test on Tuesday (9/2) against top-ranked Holland Christian and South Christian.
