The Grand Rapids Christian Eagles opened their conference season in dominant fashion, sweeping the Forest Hills Eastern Hawks 3-0. The victory capped off a program-wide sweep, with all three levels securing wins.
The night was highlighted by a milestone moment as Junior Grace Goodyke recorded her 1,000th career kill in the opening set. Fueled by her team’s support, Goodyke reached her goal and the Eagles won the first set 25-19.
The Eagles carried that momentum into the next two sets, taking them 25-22 and 25-18 to seal the match. Goodyke delivered a standout performance with 19 kills and a blistering .652 hitting percentage. Remarkably, the Hawks’ defense was unable to dig a single one of her attacks.
Mya McKinnon also made her presence known at the net, notching 7 kills from the middle. As a team, the Eagles racked up 37 kills with a collective hitting percentage of .458, an impressive offensive showing.
Service pressure was another key to the win. The Eagles tallied 12 aces, with Goodyke, Taylor Frost, and Zoey Klunder each landing three. Piper Cebulski and Carys Nieuwenhuis also chipped in a combined 3 from the service line.
Next up, the Eagles head to Lakewood High School this Saturday to defend their title at the competitive Lakewood Invitational, where they’ll face off against Division 2 rival Lakewood.
