This weekend, the Grand Rapids Christian Eagles traveled to Hudsonville High School for the Hudsonville Invite, where they were placed in a pool with Portage Northern and conference rival Forest Hills Central.

The Eagles opened strong with a clean 2-set sweep over Portage Northern (25-20, 25-12), posting a team hitting percentage of .458. Mya McKinnon led the way with 6 kills and a near-perfect .857 hitting percentage. Elise Renz added pressure from the service line with 3 of the team’s 8 aces.

Next up was Forest Hills Central, where GRC continued their dominance, winning 25-20 in both sets. The Eagles' serving game was on point with 15 total aces,Taylor Frost led with 5, and Maddie Landheer added 3. Zoey Klunder anchored serve receive with a solid 2.2 passing average.

Advancing to the gold bracket, the Eagles faced off against Hudsonville. After a slow start, GRC locked in, sweeping the match 25-21, 25-21. The serve receive game was stellar, with passing averages of 2.5 (Rylee Anderson), 2.4 (Klunder), and 2.3 (Grace Goodyke). Piper Cebulski ran the offense with 17 assists and chipped in 7 kills on a .636 hitting percentage. Goodyke was incredibly physical at the net with 16 kills, while Frost tallied 7 digs and the team added 3 key blocks.

In the final match of the day, GRC battled Northview in a hard-fought 3-set win (25-18, 23-25, 15-9). Timely blocks, powerful swings, and clutch serving sealed the victory and secured the Eagles’ first tournament title of the season.

The Eagles showed poise, energy, and continued growth, an exciting sign of what’s ahead.

Next up: The Eagles face #5-ranked Forest Hills Northern on the road this Tuesday at 6:00 PM in their third conference matchup of the season.
