The Grand Rapids Christian Eagles hit the road for a marquee matchup against Forest Hills Northern High School, and the showdown didn’t disappoint.
The Eagles came out in the first set feeling the weight of the moment, and the Huskies took advantage, jumping to an early lead. Despite the slow start, Grand Rapids Christian fought their way back into the set behind explosive kills from Sylvia Setsma and Grace Goodyke, along with an impressive six aces from Goodyke. Their late push wasn’t quite enough, and the Eagles dropped the first set 22-25.
Reenergized and refocused, the Eagles turned the tide in the second set with aggressive serving and efficient play at the net. That momentum carried them to a 25-18 win. The Huskies, however, answered back in the third with a strong serving game of their own, reclaiming control and taking the set 19-25.
Facing a must-win fourth set, the Eagles dug deep and displayed their grit. They tightened up their passing, recording a 2.3 passing average, and exploded for 18 kills and 3 blocks in a dominant 25-12 performance, showcasing their physical presence.
In the decisive fifth set, Grand Rapids Christian wasted no time, jumping out to an early lead with a balanced offense from the back row attack and middle hitters. The Huskies tried to rally, but the Eagles were too strong down the stretch. Goodyke hammered down 5 more kills, Mya McKinnon added 3 of her own, and Riley Anderson delivered two clutch aces. Maddie Landeer landed the final blow and sealed the match with a strong tool off the block, giving the Eagles a 15-12 victory.

Grace Goodyke led the charge with a phenomenal 21 kills and a match-high 8 aces.
Zoey Klunder anchored the defense with 9 digs.
Mya McKinnon stood tall at the net with 3 blocks and an efficient .438 hitting percentage (9 kills, 2 errors).
Taylor Frost set the team up for success with 19 assists followed by Piper Cebulski with 14.
The Eagles claimed the 3-2 win with set scores of 22-25, 25-18, 19-25, 25-12, and 15-12. The match was a true test of resilience and heart, and Grand Rapids Christian passed with flying colors. Their mental toughness was the deciding factor for this match up and will continue to shine as they head into the final stretch of the season.
