This past weekend, the Eagle varsity volleyball team competed at the highly competitive Jenison Invitational, featuring seven of the top teams in the state. The Eagles delivered a strong performance, finishing the day 3-1 with impressive straight-set victories over Zeeland West (2-0), West Ottawa (2-0), and Covenant Christian (2-0) in pool play.
Their undefeated run in pool play earned them a spot in the gold bracket, where they faced a talented Lowell Red Arrows squad. In a hard-fought quarter-final match, the Eagles fell in three sets (25-22, 21-25, 11-15), despite a determined effort and standout performances on both sides of the court.
Grace Goodyke powered the offense with a dominant showing, tallying 12 of the team’s 24 kills while attacking effectively from both the front and back row. Taylor Frost anchored the defense, contributing 3 blocks and 5 digs, while also dishing out 17 assists to lead the Eagles' offensive setup.
The match showcased the team’s grit and growth, especially in the opening set where they took early control. Although a late serving run by Lowell shifted the momentum in the second set, the Eagles fought until the end, proving their resilience and ability to adapt through lineup changes and pressure situations.
The team now looks ahead to Senior Night on Tuesday, October 7th at 6:00 PM, where they will honor their two seniors, Mallory Bremer and Maddie Landheer, for their dedication and passion for Eagle volleyball.
GO EAGLES!
