GRAND RAPIDS CATHOLIC CENTRAL: 1
The Grand Rapids Christian Eagles closed out their regular-season home schedule with a strong 3-1 win over Catholic Central, cheered on by a packed gym and energized by the support of the GRC youth volleyball programs. The Eagles claimed the match with set scores of 25-19, 25-15, 19-25, and 27-25.
From the opening serve, the Eagles came out firing on all cylinders. Their energy and determination were evident in the first set, as they stifled the Cougars with a powerful net presence. The tandem of Grace Goodyke and Mya McKinnon led the charge at the net, combining for 5 blocks in the opening set alone, helping to shut down Catholic Central’s attack.
Riding that momentum into the second set, the Eagles played their most efficient volleyball of the night. They committed zero hitting errors and posted an impressive team hitting percentage of .643. Sylvia Setsma and Piper Cebulski were flawless, each hitting a perfect 1.000 for the set.
In the third set, however, the tide briefly shifted. The Eagles began to play a bit too comfortably, and the Cougars took advantage with tough serving that kept GRC out of system. Despite a late push, the Eagles dropped the set, sending the match into a decisive fourth.
The Eagles regrouped and refocused in the fourth set, coming out strong on defense and at the net. Zoey Klunder anchored the back row with 3 key digs to disrupt Catholic Central’s offense, while big swings kept the pressure on. A few untimely service errors allowed the Cougars to force the game into over time, but Grand Rapids Christian showed composure and grit. In the end Rylee Anderson stepped up and delivered a clutch ace to seal the match for the Eagles.
