The Eagles opened conference play on the road at Forest Hills Northern High School, falling in a tightly contested matchup 41-44. Despite creating multiple scoring opportunities, the Eagles struggled to find offensive rhythm, finishing with 25 turnovers and several missed point-blank layups that proved costly.
Forest Hills Northern defended well and earned credit for disrupting the Eagles’ cohesiveness. Even so, Grand Rapids Christian had chances late in the game but was unable to execute down the stretch.
Offensively, #23 Pabegg Anyijong led the Eagles with 16 points. #2 LJ Chandler scored 6 points, all in the first quarter. #0 Sam Anderson added 5 points in the second half, while #14 Hayden Vess scored 5 points in the third quarter. #15 Sam DeBlaay chipped in 5 points in the first half, and #21 Javi Cummings contributed 4 points in the second half.
The Eagles will regroup and look to sharpen their cohesiveness and execution as conference play continues. Next game is Thursday at home vs Forest Hill Central.
