GR Christian Eagles 52 Wyoming Wolves 0

The Eagles traveled to Wyoming on a perfect football night and wasted no time
asserting themselves. On the third play of the game, Max Patten knocked the ball loose
from the Wyoming runner and Sam Krosschell made the recovery. Just three plays later,
Bradley Nuiver passed to Wyatt Stuit for the TD from 25 yards out. Zeke Sare ran in the
conversion to give the Eagles an 8-0 lead. On the ensuing kickoff, Brennan Thornton
executed a perfect onside kick, that Josh Wilson recovered. Just five plays later, Nuiver
struck again, finding Cooper Brisbane for an 11-yard touchdown. James Veldheer ran in
the conversion making the score 16-0 Eagles with less than three minutes elapsed.
The Eagle defense turned up the heat even more on the next two Wyoming
possessions. On the first series, Javi Cummings took over, delivering back-to-back
tackles for loss on first and second downs before storming in to block the Wolves’ punt
attempt. Sare scooped up the ball and raced 11 yards to the end zone for another Eagle
touchdown. On the next series, Sare ripped the ball from the Wyoming runner and
sprinted down to the 15-yard line. Isaac James punched in the TD from a yard out a few
plays later. Nuiver passed to Stuit for the two-point conversion, stretching the lead to
30–0 Eagles with 2:54 still remaining in the first quarter.
The defense got another stop deep in Wyoming territory and, on the first offensive play,
Zay Owens dashed for a 30-yard score. Nuiver ran in the conversion to make it 38-0.
On defense, Sare came up big again, causing and recovering another fumble which the
Eagles paid off with a 3-yard TD run by Veldheer and conversion by James. Wyoming
was able to move the ball a bit to end the second quarter, but the Eagles D kept the
Wolves out of the endzone. Halftime Score: Eagles 46, Wyoming 0.
The running clock abbreviated the second half, but it didn’t stop Zeke Sare from
sprinting past the Wyoming defense for a 48-yard touchdown run early in the third
quarter. After an Eagles turnover, Wyoming crafted a gritty drive as the fourth quarter
clock ran down, but their final play was stuffed by Antonio Martin on fourth down at the
4-yard line to complete the shutout.
The Defense rampaged through the Wolves offense all game long. Zeke Sare filled up
the stat sheet with 4 solo tackles, 2 tackles for loss, 2 fumbles caused and recovered,
and the scoop-and-score after the Cummings blocked punt. Stuit had 5 tackles and 1
TFL while Cummings and Krosschell added 2 TFLs each. The offense didn’t tally huge
yardage numbers due to the short fields provided by the defense – scoring 52 points on
just 21 offensive plays! An efficient Nuiver was 7 for 9 for 97 yards and 2 TDs through
the air to six different receivers. Cooper Brisbane and Wyatt Stuit caught TD passes
while four different Eagle rushers found the end zone: Veldheer, James, Owens, and
Sare.
The Eagles look to carry over the defensive and offensive momentum to their first home
game of the season next week Thursday at 6:00PM against cross-town rivals from East
Grand Rapids. Go Eagles.
