Eagles Fall Short in 40-39 Thriller at East Grand Rapids

The Freshman Boys Basketball team traveled to East Grand Rapids on Thursday for a highly anticipated rivalry game that lived up to its billing. In a gritty, hard-fought contest, the Pioneers controlled the opening frame and held a narrow 19-17 lead at halftime.
The Eagles responded with a surge of energy in the third quarter, outscoring the Pioneers to take a 31-25 advantage. The final period saw both teams trading momentum in a back-and-forth battle. Trailing by one with just 16 seconds remaining, Zeke Sare remained composed at the line, converting both free throws to give the Eagles a one-point lead. However, the Pioneers executed a final play to secure the victory with a buzzer-beating shot.
Despite the tough loss, the Eagles showcased a balanced offensive effort. Isaiah Denton led the scoring with 8 points, followed by Gideon Cebulski and James Veldheer with 7 points each, Zeke Sare with 6, and Sam Krosschell with 5.
The Eagles will host Grand Rapids Catholic Central at the Quest next Tuesday.
