Grand Rapids Christian competed in the Grand Haven Invitational Tournament on Saturday. The Eagles' level was up and down, settling for an overall record of 2-2 for the day. In their first match, Grand Rapids Christian defeated Holland Christian 25-19, 25-20; their second victory over the Maroons in the past three weeks. In their second match, GRC started strong against a tough Jenison team, but ultimately fell 25-23, 20-25, 14-16. The Eagles then started off the afternoon with a straight set victory over South Christian, 25-15, 25-22. In their final game of the day - a highly anticipated matchup against Lowell - the Eagles were slow out of the gate, and despite strong play later in the match, they could not quite complete the comeback. GRC fought off three match points before finally succumbing to the Red Arrows by a scores of 16-25, 25-15, 15-17. Grand Rapids Christian had strong play from their Middle Blockers all day. In GRC's four matches, Junior A.J. Warren finished with 14 kills and 7 blocks, and Sophomore Braden Brouwer added 12 kills and 8 blocks. Senior Outside Hitter Alex Rakotomalala was also strong offensively, leading the Eagles with a hitting efficiency of 0.294%. Grand Rapids Christian is back in action Monday night with a Conference Tri at home in the Quest Center.
