Grand Rapids Christian participated in a non-conference tri on Thursday night, with matches against Hudsonville and Holland. In their opener, the Eagles played host Hudsonville. GRC struggled to handle Hudsonville's aggressive serving in Set 1, but responded strongly in Sets 2 & 3 to record a thrilling come-from-behind victory, 21-25, 25-23, 26-24. Constantine Kim turned in a tremendous offensive effort on the right side, with 7 kills and just 1 attack error for the match. Alex Nelson and Jack Scholten added 9 and 8 kills, respectively. In Match 2, Grand Rapids Christian faced off against Holland High School for the first time this season. Carrying forward their momentum from the Match 1 win, the Eagles high-powered offense was too much for Holland, carrying them to a 25-12, 25-14 win - their 11th consecutive victory. Playing at middle hitter for this match, Jack Scholten put together a stat line of 6 kills and 0 errors on 8 attack attempts. Braden Brouwer and Tyler Wolters joined in on the offensive barrage, contributing 4 kills each. Senior Ben Sytsma closed the evening with a kill from the outside on match point. Grand Rapids Christian will be back at Hudsonville this Saturday for the Eagle Invitational Tournament.
