Grand Rapids Christian stormed past Sparta on Friday evening to claim their inaugural MHSAA Regional Title for Boys Volleyball. The Eagles pulled away late in each set for a 25-19, 25-18, 25-18 victory. While it has been the Eagles offense that has been dominant as of late, it was the defense that led the way on Friday - finishing the match with a season-high 11 blocks and holding the Spartans to a hitting efficiency of 0.012. Junior setter Eli Wise provided 4 of those blocks, along with 29 assists, 8 digs, and 2 service aces. Offensively, Alex Nelson led Grand Rapids Christian with 14 kills and 9 aces.

Next up for the Eagles is a state quarterfinal showdown against the Lowell Red Arrows, who won their region Friday with a 3-0 sweep of Midland. This high-powered matchup features the two top-ranked Division 2 teams in the state. The teams have faced off three times this season, with Lowell holding a 2-1 advantage. The quarterfinal game will take place at Grand Rapids Christian's Quest Center Arena - 6:00pm on June 2.
