Eagles Lose: 2 - 13
Varsity Boys Lacrosse Against Holland Christian On the Eagles Senior Night, the Holland Christian Maroons put a hurting on the festivities and what was otherwise a beautiful spring evening. The game started as a duel with both teams scoring within the first minute of the game, but the penalty bug bit the Eagles early and often, as the fellow soldiers from the West Coast scored on every one of their player-up possessions. Nothing seemed to work for the night as even when the Eagles managed to get shots, they struggled to hit the net. Goals on the night were scored by Collin Wildman and Brock Grieve, with assists going to Hayden Zimmerman and Luke Afman.   This writer wants to make a shout out to the (5) Eagles Seniors who played their last game at Eagle Stadium last night. It takes serious courage to try a game you have never played before, and then keep coming back day after day when things don't go your way. Aaron Dorner, Finn Rohs, and Logan Sutliff all fit that category as this was their first year playing. If you want to understand how difficult it is, just try passing a lacrosse ball standing still to a stationary target with your dominant hand. Now imagine passing while running, using your off-hand trying to hit a moving target, all while some guy is whacking you with a metal stick. Capiche'?    We also want to recognize Anthony Betten and Hayden Zimmerman who have played all 4 years here at GRC. Anthony has been a workhorse who never complains, works hard every shift and at every practice. He does the dirty work that needs to be done, a defensive midfielder never gets the opportunity for scoring. Hayden took a little time off his senior year to further his hockey future, but we are glad he came back to finish the season with us. His energy and passion to play hard anytime he is on the field will be missed. Good luck and Godspeed in your next undertakings!

Eagles Lose: 3 - 11
Varsity Boys Lacrosse Against Caledonia On a beautiful sunny Saturday, the Eagles Varsity Boys Lacrosse team headed south to Scotland Yard, home of the Tier 1 Caledonia Fighting Scots. Through the 1st half, it looked like the Eagles might be able to pull off an upset as they were within 2 goals as the time expired. Alas, it was not to be as the 2nd half saw the dreaded penalty bug bite, and combined with (17) turnovers saw the boys struggle to generate the goals need to keep up with Cal. The Eagles generated some good offensive opportunities, and numerous posts were hit, but unfortunately close only counts in horseshoes, hand grenades, and drive-in movies.   Logan Sutliff turned another stellar performance in net turning away 55% of the shots he faced. Scoring on the day saw Jake Eaton pick up a goal and an assist for (2) points, Hayden Zimmerman had (2) assists for (2) points, Spencer Slagboom and Brock Grieve each picked up a Gino for (1) Point each.

Eagles Win: 7 - 5
Varsity Boys Lacrosse Against East Kentwood Hard to believe we went from 39 degrees F and 30 MPH winds 1 week ago to 90 degrees, but it was a beautiful sunny evening at Eagles Stadium as the Boys took on the Falcons of East Kentwood. The boys jumped out to an early lead on (2) goals from Freshman Spencer Slagboom, and added another from Hayden Zimmerman to go into halftime with a 3 to 1 lead. The Falcons never gave up and kept taking advantage of too many Eagle turnovers and penalties. The Eagles had numerous shot opportunities, but Kentwood's strong goaltending combined with the Eagles' propensity to hit the goalposts rather than the back of the net let the Falcons keep it close in the 2nd half. Sophomore Brock Grieve went on a scoring tear in the 2nd half netting a Hat Trick, 2 of which were unassisted. Luke Afman put the biscuit in the basket to tally the final Eagle goal of the tilt. Assists were like Jif and spread smoothly around. Luke Afman, Jake Eaton, Brock Grieve, Colin Wildman and Hayden Zimmerman each picked up 1 apiece.

Eagles Lose: 11 - 14
Varsity Boys Lacrosse It was a back-and-forth battle with the Eagles taking an early lead 2-0 off two back-to-back goals by Senior Hayden Zimmerman in his first game back with the team after taking the spring off to play with Team Michigan for hockey. Assists on those ginos went to Jake Eaton.  The game went back and forth with the Rockets scoring a go-ahead goal with 24 seconds left in the first half. The Eagles were never able to regain altitude, and ended up losing 11 to 14. The boys battled hard and this was the most productive game of the season on the offensive side of the ball. Points leaders for the tilt had Jake Eaton with (1) goal and (4) assists for (5) points, Hayden Zimmerman with (3) goals and (2) assists for (5) points, Brock Grieve with (3) goals and (1) assist for (4) points, and Luke Afman finding the back of the net (4) times and dishing (1) assist for (5) points. Collin Wildman also had (2) assists for (2) points.
Boys Varsity Lacrosse vs. Lowell High School

Eagles Lose: 4 - 15
Varsity Boys Lacrosse The Boys Varsity Lacrosse team headed east to Lowell last night and came out of the gate hot, scoring the 1st goal, and battling hard throughout the 1st quarter which ended tied 2 to 2. Unfortunately, the game took a decided turn in the 2nd quarter as Lowell racked up 5 unanswered goals before the Eagles could put another biscuit in the basket. The remainder of the game continued on the same course as the boys struggled to maintain possession, being to pass, and catch, and got caught ball-watching on defense.   There were however some excellent efforts out there once again. Senior, rookie tender Logan Sutliff, went all John Wayne in True Grit taking on the Red Arrows' onslaught of shots. Logan faced 60, yes Virginia, 60 shots and only let in 15. Kudos to Logan "The Duke" Sutliff. Ben Toly faced a very quick and skilled pinch and pop fast-break FOGO from Lowell, and did a great job of slowing him down, jamming him, and winning several possessions through sheer tenacity on getting the ground ball. Goals on the evening were scored by Brock Grieve with the assist from his fellow womb-mate Blake Grieve. Blake also netted one with an assist from Luke Afman, and Luke Afman and Jake Eaton each scored 1 unassisted.
Boys Varsity Lacrosse drowned by Spring Lake 6-15

Eagles Lose: 6 - 15
The Boys Varsity Lacrosse team hosted the Lakers of Spring Lake in another Tier 2 tilt last night and fell 15 to 6. While the score appears very lopsided, the effort and the improvement were marked against a solid team. The defense had its lapses but excellent performances were turned in by Senior Defensive Midfielder, Anthony Betten and Freshmen, Carson Stransky and Logan Eaton shutting down their 2 main shooters. Senior Goalie, Logan Sutfliff faced an incredible (48) shots, and while they still scored 15, turned in an almost 70% save percentage which is awesome in lacrosse.  It was good to have Junior Jake Eaton back on the field after too long being off for injury. He made up for the lost time by scoring (4) of the (6) Eagle Goals. Other goals were scored by Luke Afman and Brock Grieve. Assists went to Luke Afman, Blake Grieve, and Erik Mileski with (1) each, and Colin Wildman was a feeding wild man finding Jake Eaton (3) times with an apple.

Eagles Lose: 5 - 19
Varsity Boys Lacrosse In what was thankfully warmer weather the Eagle Boys Varsity Lacrosse team entered the yard of the Byron Center Bulldogs, and were treated no better than the postman. They fell victim to some strong shooting by the Dawgs and their own inability to hold onto the possession they did gain, and numerous defensive lapses.   On a positive note, the offense actually scored more goals than the past 4 games combined due to the willingness to mix it up with the Dawg defense when they pushed out hard on the Eagles. Eagle goals on the night went to the Grieve twins with Brock netting (2) and Blake getting a hatty. Erik Mileski was the feeder of the evening with (2) assists and Spencer Slagboom fed another. Logan Eaton was again tough on the GB's leading the team with (4)
Boys Varsity Lacrosse falls to Hudsonville 3-14

Eagles Lose: 3 - 14
Eagles down Eagles 14-3 On yet another chilly spring evening the Eagles of Hudsonville invaded the Eagles of GRCHS. Unfortunately, the Hudsonville Eagles made a real mess of the GRCHS Eagle's nest. The Boys Varsity Laxer's got behind early and never were a threat.  However, that is not to say the Pantone 292 Blue and Black Eagles gave up and rolled over. The boys continued to battle throughout the whole game, never giving up, and managed to turn in an excellent 4th quarter. The defense continued to play well with excellent performances turned in by Senior, Anthony Betten, and Freshman, Carson Stransky. Points for the good Eagles came from Sophomore Brock Grieve with (1) goal, and (2) ginos including a sweet one on a fast break transition for Sophomore Luke Afman. (1) Assist each went to West Catholic Junior Erik Mileski, Freshmen Spencer Slagboom, and Logan Eaton. Logan was an animal, gobbling up (5) ground balls, and leading several clears.
Boys Varsity Lacrosse vs. Zeeland East High School

Eagles Lose: 2 - 14
Varsity Boys Lacrosse The Eagles Laxers invaded the nest of the Zeeland Birds (this is the combined team of the Zeeland East HS Chix and the Zeeland West HS Dux), and the feathers flew! Unfortunately, they were Eagle feathers. The boys once again struggled offensively to possess the ball, and if you don't possess you can't score. The Bird's defense pushed out hard on the young Eagles and clipped their wings.   Sometimes when you are not seeing much success as a team, it is hard to find the good, but there is good in this group. This is a very young team, the average age is 10th grade, and while you do not have to be big to play lacrosse it helps to have some body mass to work with, and no one will tell you this group is overweight. They continue to work hard in practice and have a great attitude. Success will come if you keep doing the little things consistently and right.    There were some shining spots in the game, West Catholic midfielder, Colin Wildman was an absolute house on Defense last night matching feet with the best Birds, forcing numerous turnovers, and limiting their shot opportunities. Also stellar was Freshman Ben Toly at the faceoff X. The Head Referee of last's night's game was shocked to find out his lack of lacrosse experience, and age. The two Eagle goals went to Luke Afman and Blake Grieve, with Blake assisting on Luke's Gino.

Eagles Lose: 1 - 18
Varsity Boys Lacrosse  The undefeated Bulldogs of Grandville showed up at Eagle Stadium last night, and immediately began marking their territory, never letting up. The Eagle Laxers struggled to maintain possession, and clear the ball when they did gain the possession. Freshman Ben Toly did a good job slowing down the Bulldogs Faceoff specialist, helping to keep their fast break on a leash. The lone Eagle goal was scored late in the 4th quarter by Luke Afman with an assist going to Colin Wildman in very tight quarters of the Dawgs backer zone defense. Freshman Logan Eaton had (6) Ground Balls for the evening, and was the shining star when the Eagles did manage to achieve a clear, forcing turnovers, and leading the way with some awesome toe drags of his 6 foot D Pole through tight traffic.

Eagles Lose: 3 - 16
Varsity Boys Lacrosse On a beautiful sunny and warm evening at Eagle Stadium, the Boys Varsity Lacrosse Team did not have a sunny and warm outing versus the Panthers of West Ottawa. The Eagles got behind early and never could fly out of the hole they let themselves get in. The Panthers played hot on the offenses' hands, and the Eagles struggled to gain and maintain possession all night.   Bright spots on the night were Junior Luke Selfe with (4) forced turnovers, (3) ground galls, and yeoman's work locking off WO's stud attackman. Also, Freshman Ben Toly who had never played lacrosse before this season, let alone taken a face-off is really coming on at the face-off X. He won (12) of the (22) faceoffs he took, unfortunately, he did not get the support needed from his wings for the Eagles to gain the possession. Junior West Catholic Middie Colin Wildman had (4) ground balls, and (2) assists, Sophomore Captain Brock Grieve had a hardworking goal, while his twin brother and fellow Captain Blake got an assist. Junior West Catholic Middie, Erik Mileski was the high scorer putting (2) eggs in the nest for the Eagles.

Eagles Lose: 4 - 13
Varsity Boys Lacrosse With the philosophy, of getting better by playing better teams the Eagles Varsity Laxers hosted the Tier 1 Cougars of Grand Rapids Catholic Central at their nest Tuesday evening. While the outcome was not a surprise, judging by their demeanor on the sidelines the Cougar coaching staff was very surprised with the effort the low on manpower Eagles put out.   A Herculean effort was made by rookie Senior Goaltender Logan Sutliff. Facing an incredible 47 shots Logan only let 13 passed for an outstanding 72% save percentage. To say he was residing "en Fuego" was an understatement.   The Eagles never gave up, having their strongest quarter in the 4th. Colin Wildman picked up a goal against his Catholic school rivals with a rocket from the top of the box. Along with fellow West Catholic Junior Erik Mileski sneaking one by the CC tender. Sophomore Brock Grieve notched two goals on his shaft with Sophmore Luke Afman contributing 2 assists, and Senior Anthony Better contributing another assist. Another heroic performance came from rookie Face-Off specialist Freshman Ben Toly tying up the Cougar Specialist at the faceoff X, and limiting the potent fast break he is known for.
Boys Varsity Lacrosse vs. Mona Shores High School

Eagles Lose: 1 - 11
Varsity Boys Lacrosse The Eagles sailed north on Saturday to Mona Shores to take on the co-op team of Mona Shores, Muskegon Catholic Central, West Michigan Christian, & Fruitport. They ran into a heavy storm, both in the way of the weather and their opponent. The day was cold with 20 plus MPH winds, and snow covered their grass field creating slippery footing and miserable conditions. Back pack blowers made the field lines somewhat visible, and the game got underway. An unfortunate injury to the Eagle's leading scorer Jake Eaton on the first faceoff, and took significant wind out of the Eagles’ sails. The boys could never get their sea legs and struggled to penetrate Mona's hot-on-hands defensive play. The white whale from last season — turnovers — haunted the Eagles throughout the game with the snow and poor field conditions making it worse. Sophomore Attackman Luke Afman managed to find the back of the net late in the game off a feed to crease from West Catholic Junior Middie Colin Wildman. Sophomore Middie Blake Grieve was tough in the snow picking up 6 Ground Balls.
