Girls Varsity Lacrosse vs. Spring Lake High School

Eagles Lose: 9 - 15
In their final game of the season, Eagles Varsity put forth stout competition against the Lakers of Spring Lake, eventually losing 9-15! Goals were scored by senior attackers Niya Couch (4), and Lili Bouwma, as well as sophomores Maggie Doyle, Elizabeth Mehney, Adia Sikkema, and Emma Visser. Midfielder Halle Couch was credited with winning 10 draws and controlling controlling 4. Sophomore goalie, Katie Hoeksema was credited with 4 saves. For her caused turnover, ground ball, and energy on defense, senior defender Rylee Sigler was awarded the Defensive Player of the Game. The team’s Ground Hog Award was split no less than six ways. With 2 ground balls each, Emma Visser, Elizabeth Mehney, Halle Couch, Leah Stransky, Lili Bouwma, and Niya Couch were all named GroundHog of the game. With 4 assists Lili Bouwma was awarded Laxister of the game. Congratulations on a great season Eagles!!

Defeating the Red Arrows of Lowell 20-7, Eagles Varsity officially takes second place in conference! Goals were scored by senior attacker Niya Couch (9), sophomore midfielders Adia Sikkema (5), Maggie Doyle (4) Elizabeth Mehney (2) and Emma Visser. Attacker Lili Bouwma was credited with winning 11 draws and winning 3. Attacker Niya Couch was credited with winning 9 draws and controlling 6. Defensive player of the game was awarded to Ellie DenDulk for her hustle on the field and 3 ground balls. The team’s Ground Hog Award went to Adia Sikkema, picking up 6 ground balls in the game. With 3 assists Niya Couch was awarded Laxister of the game. Way to go Eagles!!

With 2 ground balls each, Niya Couch, sophomore defender Annelle Dykema, and senior defender defender Leah Stransky claimed the team’s Ground Hog Award. In a tight game, Eagles Varsity falls to Spring Lake, trailing the Lakers 13-15. Goals were scored by seniors Lili Bouwma (5), Niya Couch (4), and by sophomores Halle Couch, Maggie Doyle, and Emma Visser. Midfielder Halle Couch was credited with winning 12 draws, and controlling 5. Sophomore goalie, Katie Hoeksema was credited with 3 saves. Defensive Player of the Game was awarded to the team for their cohesive defensive across the board. The team’s GroundHog Award was split three ways between Halle Couch, Niya Couch, and Leah Stransky, each scooping up 2 ground balls. With 5 assists, Niya Couch was awarded Laxister of the Game. Girls Varsity Lacrosse Golf Against Grand Haven Eagles Varsity wins their Senior Night game against Grand Haven, ending the game in a 14-2 lead! Goals were scored by seniors Lili Bouwma (4) and Niya Couch (4), sophomores Adia Sikkema (2), Halle Couch, Elizabeth Mehney, Sara Muir, and Leah Stransky. Midfielder Halle Couch was credited with winning 10 draws. Attacker Elizabeth Mehney was credited with winning 4 draws and controlling 4. Sophomore goalie Katie Hoeksema was credited with 4 saves and junior goalie Annika DeKraker was credited with 1 goal. With 5 ground balls, Adia Sikkema claimed the team’s Ground Hog Award. Defensive player of the game was awarded to Halle Couch with 6 caused turnovers and 1 ground ball. With 2 assists each, Lili Bouwma and Maggie Doyle were awarded Laxister(s) of the Game. Eagles Varsity snagged victory over Grandville, defeating the Bulldogs 21-11! Goals were scored by senior attackers Niya Couch (7), Lili Bouwma (5), sophomores Halle Couch (4), Adia Sikkema (3), and seniors Sara Muir and Lauren Warner. Midfielder Halle Couch was credited with winning 19 draws and controlling 9. Niya Couch was credited with winning 4 draws and Elizabeth Mehney was credited with winning 3 draws and controlling 5. In goal, junior Annika DeKraker was credited with 9 saves throughout the game, also winning the award for Defensive Player of the Game. With 5 ground balls Niya Couch was named Ground Hog. The team’s Laxister Award was split three ways, as with 3 assists each, Niya Couch, Maggie Doyle, and Adia Sikkema claimed the award. Great job Eagles!!

Eagles Varsity dominates over  Lowell, winning 18-0! Goals were scored by seniors Lili Bouwma (6), Halle Couch (2), Niya Couch (2), Emma Visser (2), Maddie Christians, Maggie Doyle, Elizabeth Mehney, Adia Sikkema and Madison Wolters. Midfielder Halle Couch was credited with winning 13 draws, and controlling 7. Junior  goalie Annika DeKraker was credited with 4 saves. Being instrumental in the shutout win, Annika DeKraker was also awarded the Defensive Player of the Game! With 5 ground balls, midfielder Adia Sikkema claimed the team’s Ground Hog Award. Niya Couch, with 5 assists, was awarded Laxister of the Game. Way to go Eagles!!

Eagles Varsity overcomes the Baby Eagles of Hudsonville once again, in an 11-7 victory! Goals were scored by senior attackers Lili Bouwma (4), Niya Couch (4), and sophomores Halle Couch, Maggie Doyle, and Adia Sikkema. Midfielder Halle Couch was credited with winning 2 draws. Lili Bouwma and Niya Couch were both credited with winning 2 draws each. Sophomore Goalie Katie Hoeksema was credited with an astounding 15 saves on the night. With 7 ground ball, sophomore defender Annelle Dykema was awarded the team’s GroundHog Award. The Defensive Player of the game with one ground ball, one caused turnover, and overall tenacity on the field was sophomore defender Rachel Larsen. With 3 assists, Niya Couch was awarded the Laxister of the game. Nice work Eagles!!!

Eagles Varsity, as usual, continues to be spoiled by lovely weather as they take another dub in their game against Caledonia, winning 11-10! Goals were scored by seniors Lili Bouwma (3) and Niya Couch (3), sophomores Maggie Doyle (2), Halle Couch, Elizabeth Mehney, and Adia Sikkema. Midfielder Halle Couch was credited with winning 4 draws, and controlling 8. Attacker Lili was credited with winning 9 draws and controlling 7. Sophomore goalie Katie Hoeksema was credited with 6 saves. With 5 ground balls Maggie Doyle claimed the team’s Ground Hog Award dominating the ground game on both ends of the field. Defensive player of the game was awarded to senior defender Rylee Sigler for her outstanding work on the field, not willing to budge an inch against Caledonia’s offense. Lili Bouwma, with 5 assists was awarded the Laxister of the Game. Way to go Eagles!!

Draw specialist Halle Couch was credited with winning 11 draws and controlling 6, with sophomore midfielder, Adia Sikkema 3 draws. Sophomore goalie Katie Hoeksema was credited with no less than 11 saves, winning the award for Defensive Player of the Game. The team’s Ground Hog Award was awarded to Annelle Dykema as she tore up the field picking up 5 ground balls. With 1 assist each, Lili Bouwma and Halle Couch were awarded Laxisters of the Game. Midfielder Halle Couch was credited with winning 14 and controlling 5. Defensive player of the game was awarded to Rylee Sigler for her hustle, caused turnover, and ground ball. Defensive player of the game was awarded to Annelle for her 4 caused turnovers, 4 ground balls, and ball movement on the field. The team’s Ground Hog Award once again split, this time between Annelle Dykema and Halle Couch, each scooping up 4 ground balls over the course of the game. Sophomore goalie Katie Hoeksema was credited with 4 saves and several successful clears. Scooping up 5 ground balls and causing several turnovers, Elizabeth Mehney was named Defensive Player of the game. The team’s Ground Hog Award was awarded to Maggie Doyle as she tore up the field picking up 6 ground balls. With 2 assists each, Lili Bouwma and Elizabeth Mehney were awarded Laxister of the game. Eagles Varsity opened their season dominating over Hudsonville 9 - 6! Though the weather was definitely not the balmy 80 degrees we’re used to in a Michigan March, the Eagles persevered, playing through wet feet, cold hands, and limited practice time. Goals were scored by Niya Couch (4), Lili Bouwma (2), Maggie Doyle and Elizabeth Mehney. Assists were credited to Lili Bouwma, Halle Couch, and Elizabeth Mehney, all of whom share the Laxsister Award for the game. Sophomore midfielder Halle Couch was credited with winning 10 and controlling 3 draws. Sophomore goalie Katie Hoeksema was credited with 5 saves. Defensive player of the game was Leah Stransky for her caused turnover, ground ball, and overall domination on defensive end of the field. The team’s Ground Hog Award was awarded to Halle Couch for her solid effort scooping up 4 ground balls. Way to go Eagles!!
