Eagles Lose: -
JV Boys Eagles tennis played a home match against Hudsonville on Wednesday. The opposing Eagles (Sidenote: GR Christian adopted the eagle mascot first) were a strong team as they always are but our players came to battle. 1st & 2nd Doubles in addition to 8th singles played best 2 out of of 3 sets and flights 3 through 7 played supersets to 8 games in order to give Hudsonville’s larger team equal playtime. Hudsonville did come out with an 8-0 victory over the Eagles, but there were competitive matches throughout the evening and the Eagles fought to the last point at every flight. #1 doubles (Peter and Matt) lost 6-6 (4-7), 3-6 but the score didn't reflect how the match actually went as almost every game went into deuce, #2 doubles (Aaron and Brevin) lost 2-6, 5-7 and saw great improvement in the second set when they were aggressive at the net,  #3 doubles (Ethan and Derrick) lost 0-8 against a strong Hudsonville team. #4 doubles (Nico and Joel) lost 2-8. The remaining scores consisted of #5 (Christian and Alex) 2-8 #6 doubles (Brayden and Josh) 3-8, #7 doubles (Ben and Gavin) 2-8 and #8 singles (Matthew Chen) 0-6, 1-6. Matthew elected to try singles for the first time yesterday and was blazing around, covering twice as much court as usual. In all these matches everyone got at least a game off their opponent and huge improvements have been shown since the beginning of the season. This was our last match of the season, and the coaching staff has been so pleased with the sportsmanship, work ethic, and sense of community displayed by our players. Parents, thank you for your support at matches and making sure the team stays hydrated and fed. It has been a fantastic season! JV will not practice this Friday, but will meet for a closing practice Monday October 30. Go Eagles!

Eagles Lose: -
JV Boys Eagles tennis played a home match against Forest Hills Eastern on Wednesday. The Hawks were a strong team as they always are but our players came to battle. Eastern did come out with the victory over the Eagles 8 doubles teams, with the Eagles going 1-7 on the day. However, there were some very competitive matches throughout the evening and the Eagles fought to the very last of every point in each match. #1 doubles (Peter and Matt) lost 1-6, 1-6 but the score didn't reflect how the match actually went as almost every game went into deuce and was close, #2 doubles (Aaron and Brevin) lost 3-6, 4-6 and saw great improvement in the second set when they were aggressive at the net,  #3 doubles (Ethan and Derrick) had the lone W of the day winning 6-2, 2-6, 11-9 after overcoming so adversity and coming back to win the third set tie-breaker. #4 doubles (Nico and Joel) lost in a thrilling 3 setter 2-6, 7-5, 5-10 where they fought their hearts out to come back to force a third set and came up just short. The remaining scores consisted of #5 (Christian and Alex) 3-6, 1-6, #6 doubles (Brayden and Josh) 3-8, #7 doubles (Ben and Gavin) 1-8, and #8 doubles (Gavin and Matthew) 5-8. In all these remaining matches everyone got at least a game off their opponent and huge improvements have been shown since the beginning of the season. Gavin and Matthew had a really close hard fought match against a tough #8 doubles team too. The last home match of the year for the Eagles will by today against Hudsonville.

Eagles Lose: 0 - 8
The Eagles JV tennis team is back at it with a week packed full of tough matches. Yesterday the Eagles played the Forest Hills Northern Huskies at home. Forest Hills Northern was very talented top to bottom but our guys battled and left it all out on the court. The Huskies were perhaps the toughest team we have faced all season but our guys came to compete and their results show through in their work ethic and improvement. Yesterday Aaron Dorner and Brevin Ganzevoort fell just short in a 5-7 battle against the huskies. Aaron and Brevin have shown consistent improvement day in and day out and their score against an exceptional team is a notice. They came up just short and with just a couple of points going the other way, we turn that score to a winning 7-5. Last night due to an odd number on our side, Ben Skillen was paired up with an FHN player and they happened to dominate their opponents in a decisive victory. Taking the win at 6-3, Ben showed what it means to be a team player and play with a member from another team, he did so with a great attitude. Joel Van Hekken and Nico Speulstra came up just short in another 5-7 battle. Having been their first time paired up, they weren't sure what to expect, and they were most certainly not familiar playing with each other. The guys went out and competed and again with just a couple of points going our way, we turn the score around to a 7-5 victory.  Huge credit to all of the guys every day of the season for coming to practices and matches, showing up to bust their rear ends day in and day out to improve and succeed. We will be playing Forest Hills Eastern at Gainey at 4pm, we are expecting yet another battle against a tough team. Go Eagles!

Eagles Lose: -
The weekend was packed with lots of tennis for the Eagles JV tennis team. This Saturday, the boys played in a quad tournament hosted by Zeeland East. The other teams in the tournament were Unity Christian, Catholic Central and Zeeland East. It was a solid weekend for some tennis. The Eagles went 1-2 on the day Saturday, we had outstanding performances all around. The game ball for the day was awarded to Alex Amash. He showed up ready to play and he was lights out all day. He was diving for balls and he kept his feet moving all day, he showed heart and he fought unitl the end of every match. Alex has a gleaming work ethic and it showed through big time on Saturday. Derrick Jacobsen and Ethan Brandt went 3-0 on the day. They topped Catholic Central in a tight three set match but they came out on top. Ethan and Derrick have been consistent all year and they continue to be coachable and responsive on the court. They toppled Zeeland East and Catholic Central as well, both matches were won in straight sets. Brevin Ganzevoort and Matt Molenhouse had a solid day at the top spot, they battled all three teams and they did not stop competing once. Matt and Brevin had a solid day all around, they continue to be very coachable and hard working. Matt was lights out from the baseline and the net and Brevin was a monster at the net in all of their matches.  The Eagles JV tennis team is looking to get back out and after it this week as we are packed full with practices and matches all week long.

Eagles Lose: 3 - 4
The Eagles JV tennis team had a brawl against the NorthPointe Christian Mustangs on Friday. Both teams showed up to compete on Friday and there was some solid tennis on display. The Eagles came up just short with a 3-4 loss, the results from Friday were a telltale sign of the Boys' improvement over the course of the season.  The Eagles battled the Mustangs from top to bottom with five flights going into a third set super tiebreaker. Joel Van Hekken and Christian Vandenberg came up just short in three sets, going into two tiebreaks back to back. They fought hard until the match was over. Their end result was 6-2, 6-7 (4-7), (9-11). Christian Vandenberg has continued to show steady improvement throughout the whole season and his growth was fully on display. Aaron Dorner and Nico Speulstra pulled the win in a third set tiebreak after being down a set. Their final score was 5-7, 6-3, (10-4). Both Nico and Aaron have shown outstanding improvement consistently and they work together very well as partners. Josh Vande Griend and Brayden Hawkins came in big with a win in the third set against NPC. Their final score was 7-5, 5-7, (11-13). Josh and Brayden continue to use their athleticism to their advantage in their matches, they have the ability to outlast their opponents and it showed through on Friday in the match. It is always a rivalry when we play other parochial schools in the area. The boys showed up to play against the Mustangs, while proudly representing the Christian block C.

Eagles Lose: 3 - 5
The Eagles JV tennis team battled against the Forest Hills Central Rangers tonight. All of the guys came to fight today and they left it all out on the court, playing with intensity and representing the C with intensity and sportsmanship. They put on an all around impressive performance but ultimately fell 5-3. At #1 Doubles, Matt Molenhouse and Brevin Ganzevoort came up big in a three set win, 6-4, 2-6, 11-9 in the third set match break tiebreak - meaning that at 9-9 it came down to one team fighting to win two points in a row to take the match.  At #3 Doubles, Ethan Brandt and Derek Jacobsen continued their stellar season campaign as one of the most successful duos on the team, fighting through a tough 7-5,7-5 victory. Newcomers Josh Vande Griend and Braden Hawkins came up big in their win for the Eagles as well. There are several bright spots as the team continues to improve, Ben Skillen and Alex Amash went down 0-3 and battled back to 3-3 and showed grit. Drew Leonard went down last week with a wrist injury, but still continues to be an outstanding teammate present at matches and practice. The Eagles will play NorthPointe Christian at Gainey this friday at 4pm and in the Zeeland East Quad on Saturday.

The Eagles JV tennis team and The EGR Pioneers JV tennis team teamed up to take on Rockford and Hudsonville JV tennis teams. It was a great weekend for some tough competition to head into yet another big week for the Eagles.  Ben Skillen and Alex Amash rallied against Hudsonville putting up a fight falling short 3-6, 3-6. In a JV tennis rarity, The Eagles' Aaron Dorner was put into a singles match against two of Hudsonville's players beating both players handily, Aaron showed what it means to go out and leave everything on the court. Brevin Ganzevoort and Nico Speulstra were paired up over the weekend and they battled in both of their matches, neither of them had played together and to be thrown in together and play as well as they did shows how much our hard work is paying off. Christian Vandenberg and Joel Van Hekken played tight matches coming up just short in both, they left it all out there and played hard until their matches were finished. Josh Vande Griend and Brayden Hawkins continue to improve upon picking up a tennis racquet less than a month ago. They played both of their opponents tough, giving both Hudsonville and Rockford a run for their money. Matthew Chen and Gavin Sosnowski had a close match with Hudsonville that almost went into three sets.  Each week we continue to see improvements in these young men both on the court as tennis players and off the court as young men of faith. We are seeing consistent improvement with more and more drive from the guys each day.

Eagles Lose: 0 - 8
Last night the Eagles JV tennis team came out to battle against East Grand Rapids JV tennis. The boys knew they were going to face adversity but they went out and competed regardless. Results do not demonstrate improvement in tennis ability and effort. We fell short 0-8 to the Pioneers but we are looking forward to our future meetings against them as we will be out for more. Our standouts from yesterday were Juniors Matt Molenhouse and Peter Bos, at the 1 doubles spot. They fell just short in a tight 3-set match. Their final score was 6-3, 5-7 (10-12), Peter and Matt fought hard until the match was over and it could've gone either way with a few points here or there. Our 3 doubles Ethan Brandt and Derrick Jacobsen had a tough match dealing with two types of players they had never seen before but they battles until the end, coming up just short at 3-6, 2-6. Big performance from Aaron Dorner and Gavin Sosnowski as well. Dorner, being a first year player has risen to every challenge and hasn't had a complaint of such. Dorner and Sosnowski fought hard last night coming up just short at 4-6, 3-6. The Eagles JV tennis team will be back for practice today with plenty of improvements to make. Overall, effort and heart is what we want out of the guys and they have no problem showing their true colors and they proudly represent the block C on and off the tennis court.

Going into this weekends tournament the Eagles JV Tennis team knew the challenges they were going to face, but they came ready to compete.  Results are not indicative of performance, throughout the day we saw consistent improvement from all the players.  We came up with a win at 3 Doubles with Ethan Brandt Derrick Jacobson.

Eagles Lose: -
The JV Tennis team continued improvement today, falling to Catholic Central but making important strides in match, tactics, and overall experience. From the top of the lineup to the bottom, the Eagles fought hard at every flight.  Derek Jacobsen and Ethan Brandt claimed the lone win at #3 Doubles, but the performance is valued over the result, as several flights had tough matches. At #1 Doubles, Peter Bos and Brevin Ganzevoort battled in a tough match they almost took into three sets at 2-6, 6-7 (2-7). #2 Doubles Matt Molenhouse and Drew Leonard had tight match coming up just short at 5-7, 4-6.  We may not have come out on top today, but we came out ready to compete. All of our guys fought hard for every ball tonight. A loss is not always a defeat. The GRC Boys JV Tennis team continues to uphold the outstanding reputation for Christian High, and even in a tough loss, they played with class and with respect for their opponents, while representing Christ on and off the tennis court. The overall match score was 1-7  Individual Match Results: 1 Doubles: (2-6, 6-7 (2)) Brevin Ganzevoort x Peter Bos 2 Doubles: (5-7, 4-6) Matt Molenhouse x Drew Leonard 3 Doubles: (6-2, 6-4) Ethan Brandt x Derrick Jacobsen 4 Doubles: (1-6, 0-6) Joel Van Hekken x Christian Vandenberg 5 Doubles: (0-6, 3-6) Gavin Sosnowski x Aaron Dorner 6 Doubles: (3-6, 0-6) Josh Vande Griend x Alex Amash 7 Doubles: (2-6, 4-6) Nico Speulstra x Ben Skillen
