JV Eagles Cap Off the Season in Victory

Eagles Win: 45 - 28
The Eagles took on their league rival, South Christian, in the final game of the season. Grand Rapids Christian came in riding a six game win streak and didn't trail at any point tonight. The first quarter saw the Eagles attacking the paint leading to eight free throws in the frame all while holding the visiting Sailors to shots outside of the lane. The Eagle defense broke open the game in the second quarter by causing turnovers and limiting South Christian to only five points as they went into halftime with a 22-12 lead. In the second half, it was more of the same story with the Eagles' continuous trapping defense never allowed the Sailors to find a rhythm. Grand Rapids Christian was led in scoring by Katelyn LaRue with 14 points, who was a perfect 4 for 4 from the free throw line. Kailynn Grieve led the defense with seven steals to go along with a great Euro-step lay-up. Six other Eagles scored in tonight's game. The entire team provided great energy on the defensive end and moved the ball quicky against South Christian's zone defense. The 2019-20 season comes to a close for the JV Eagles with a 15-5 record, improving week to week, and playing their best basketball in their final game tonight.

Eagles Win: 43 - 21
The Eagles had another great team win on the road at Wayland Tuesday afternoon. Defense turned into offense again, led by Kailynn Grieve and Lydia Sall with great anticipation. Katelyn LaRue got the scoring started with two first quarter 3-pointers. Leah Stransky knocked in three jumpers against the Wayland zone and Jessica Larsen knocked down a buzzer beating three at the end of the first half. The Eagles finish their season Thursday evening back at the Quest against South Christian.

Eagles Win: 57 - 15
The Eagles continued to demonstrate their growth as individuals and as a team in their Friday afternoon contest against Forest Hills Eastern. Grand Rapids Christian came out of the gate pressuring the visiting Hawks with their full-court defense holding them to six first quarter points. The second quarter saw the Eagles really begin to dictate the pace of the game causing turnovers and getting their fast break going which lead to 25 points in the frame, and taking a 38-9 lead into the halftime break. The second half held more of same for the home team, as the team worked together on defense and moving the ball well on the offensive end. It was another well-rounded performance for the Eagles as eight of 12 players scored. Hannah Sall led the way with 18 points including six of eight from the charity stripe, all in the third quarter. Rylee Sigler had her strongest performance of the year with eight points to go along with strong on-ball defense. Leah Stransky made smart plays on the offensive end with three assists. The Eagles head into their last week of the season heading to Wayland on Tuesday and closing out the season on Thursday at home against South Christian.
JV Eagles Take Down Pioneers

Eagles Win: 45 - 27
The Eagles took to the hardwood Tuesday afternoon in a rematch against conference foe, East Grand Rapids. In their first meeting, the Pioneers snatched a two point victory of Grand Rapids Christian. Today, however, the Eagles didn't let that happen again. In another balanced attack, the Eagles played solid defense in the first two frames, heading into halftime with a 20-15 point advantage powered by Paris Rodgers six points. Once the second half began, the Eagle defense swarmed the Pioneers keeping them to only 12 points in the entire second half forcing turnovers that turned into layups. Eight out of 12 players made their way into the scoring column for Grand Rapids Christian as they continue their stretch of balanced basketball. Alana Lyons chipped in six points along with Lydia Sall's seven and Katelyn LaRue's 16. The Eagles are back at it on Friday at home against Forest Hills Eastern.

Eagles Win: 49 - 26
The Eagles took to the road visiting the Wolves of Wyoming. It was a hot start for the Eagles as they jumped to a 15-2 lead in the first quarter converting pressure defense into easy baskets. The Wolves made a run in the second quarter as they ended the half down 15-26. Katelyn LaRue scored 16 of her 20 points in the first half. Yet, in the second half, the Eagle defense banded together holding Wyoming to only four field goals the last two quarters. Rylee Sigler, Kailynn Grieve, Paris Rodgers, and Kayla Lyons took turns defending the two leading scorers of the Wolves holding them to a combined 6 points. It was another game that saw 10 of the 12 Eagles score and shot 12 of 16 from the charity stripe. Grand Rapids Christian returns home on Tuesday looking to avenge its earlier loss to East Grand Rapids.

Eagles Win: 40 - 28
The last time these teams faced off, Grand Rapids Christian lost a close one with only four players on the court when the final buzzer sounded. Today the Eagles led wire to wire. The home team jumped out to a hot start, scoring 17 points in the opening frame while holding the visiting Trojans to only 8 points. By mixing up their defenses, the Eagles stemmed every attempt at a run and countered with layups off of turnovers. It was a very balanced scoring attack tonight for the Eagles with nine of 12 players scoring. Kailynn Grieve connecting on her first 3-pointer of the year adding to her 9 points. Hannah and Lydia Sall along with Paris Rodgers kept the Trojans off the glass throughout the entire game, not allowing many second chance points. Friday the Eagles head down the road to face the Wolves of Wyoming.
JV Eagles Rebound With Win over FHN

Eagles Win: 39 - 25
It was a quick turnaround after a tough loss last night for Grand Rapids Christian, but the Eagles came to play. It was a rematch against Forest Hills Northern that saw the Eagles win a close one in overtime; tonight was different. The teams were deadlocked at 7 after the first quarter, but then the Eagles made a run at the end of the half to go up 19-15. They didn't look back after that. The Huskies came out in a zone in the second half and the home team capitalized to the tune of 11 points in the third quarter. The Eagles defense once again tightened up holding Northern to only one second half field goal. Grand Rapids Christian had multiple steals by Alana and Kayla Lyons as well as Kailynn Grieve. Lydia Sall put together a great game with 10 points and cleaning the glass throughout the game. The Eagles return home Tuesday to start the second round of conference match-ups beginning with Thornapple-Kellogg.
JV Eagles Drop a Close One to Covenant Christian

Eagles Lose: 31 - 34
The Eagles came out strong in a non-conference match-up against Covenant Christian Thursday night, jumping out to a 10-4 lead at the end of the first. Then the shots stopped dropping for the Eagles as they went into the break down 24-16. Defense picked up for the Eagles coming out in the second half holding the Chargers to only 10 second half points with tight pressure defense and improved rebounding from Paris Rodgers and Lili Bouwma. Unfortunately, not enough shots went through the basket in this one for the Eagles who were lead by Kaitlyn LaRue's 21 points. The JV Eagles are back at home next Tuesday to start the second half of conference play against Thornapple-Kellogg.

Eagles Win: 32 - 30
Seven of twelve games this season have been decided by three points or less for the Eagles, and tonight was no different. The defense was great in the first half for the Eagles as they held the Sailors of South Christian to 14 points. The second half is when things got close. The Sailors emphasized their low post scoring and drew the game even in the fourth quarter. This was familiar territory for the Eagles and their experience paid off down the stretch. Lydia Sall scored the go-ahead basket on a rebound put-back as the Eagles were able keep their lead until the final buzzer. Katelyn LaRue had a stellar game from the free-throw line, connecting on 9 of her 10 attempts, helping her towards a 20 point outing. The Eagles will return home next week Thursday to face Covenant Christian before a rematch with Forest Hills Northern on Friday.
JV Eagles Win Against Wayland

Eagles Win: 54 - 18
Grand Rapids Christian stormed through the first half against Wayland today rolling out to an 18-2 lead in the first quarter. With intense defense, the Eagles worked hard to extend their lead to 32-3 at the half. Hannah Sall had 11 of her 13 points at the break, leading the way for the Eagles. The second half saw more strong defense leading to good shots for the Eagles. Ava VanOtteren played her best game of the year with 5 points and 3 assists. Every Eagle contributed with either a steal, rebound, assist, or basket in a great team performance. The Eagles head to South Christian on Thursday for another conference showdown.

Eagles Win: 47 - 17
On the road again, the Eagles lead wire to wire in a win against Forest Hills Eastern. Going into th second quarter with a 12-7 lead, Grand Rapids Christian ran away with a 17-1 run going into halftime. It was more of the same in the second half with great contributions from the whole team. Kailynn Grieve turned defense into offense scoring 12 points. Leah Stransky had a strong showing with 7 points, all in the second half, and Lili Bouwma chipped in 6. The Eagles return home to take on Wayland Tuesday.
Eagles Win in Overtime

Eagles Win: 44 - 41
In the middle of a three game road stretch, the Eagles battled for an overtime victory over a tough Forest Hills Northern squad. Grand Rapids Christian held the lead for nearly the entire game until the fourth quarter when the Huskies tied it up. Northern had the last possession in regulation, but strong team defense held fast, not allowing a shot. That great defense persisted into the overtime, where the Eagles held the Huskies scoreless. It was Lydia Sall who scored the winning basket and Paris Rodgers sealed it with a free throw with 2 seconds left. The Eagles are back on the road tonight at Forest Hills Eastern for the their final game of the week before returning home next Tuesday against Wayland.

Eagles Lose: 38 - 40
The Eagles lost another close one last night. After being down 12 to 15 at the end of the first quarter, strong team defense had Grand Rapids Christian go on a 13 to 2 run in the second quarter. There was a lid on the hoop for the Eagles in the second half, however, and the Pioneers caught on fire in the fourth quarter. Paris Rodgers and Katelyn LaRue led the way with 10 points each followed closely by Lydia and Hannah Sall with 8. The Eagles hit the road again on Thursday at Forest Hill Northern and again on Friday against Forest Hills Eastern.

Eagles Win: 62 - 42
In their first home game since December 17, the Eagles put together a solid team victory. Wyoming came ready to shoot from deep and connected on 5 first half three pointers to go along with perfect shooting from the free-throw line. But the Eagles packed their own scoring punch. After leading 13-12 at the end of the first quarter, Katelyn LaRue and Hannah Sall lead a second quarter run for the Eagles with 10 and 6 points, respectively, resulting in a 33-25 hafltime lead. The defense tightened up in the second half for Grand Rapid Christian, holding the Wolves to only 17 second half points and only one more three-pointer. Paris Rodgers returned with 6 points and was a part of a strong defensive effort along with Kayla and Alana Lyons holding Wyoming's first half scoring leader to only one point in the second half. The Eagles hit the road in games against conference opponent East Grand Rapids as well as Forest Hills Northern and Forest Hills Eastern next week.

Eagles Lose: 35 - 37
The Eagles delivered their grittiest performance against a deep Thornapple-Kellogg squad. Entering into the game with a shortened bench, the ladies suffered two key injuries leaving them with just five players. Through tough-nosed defense and improved rebounding in the second half, the team kept the game close all the way until the end. The Eagles finished the game in peculiar fashion having only four available players due to injuries and foul trouble, yet they had a chance to win it at the buzzer. After a rebound off a missed TK free-throw, the Eagles had a chance to win it at the buzzer, but the shot didn't connect. Katelyn LaRue scored a game high 23 points through long range shooting, nifty drives into the lane, and an important 6 of 7 from the free throw line. Lydia Sall chipped in 7 along with a number of key rebounds. The Eagles take on the Wolves of Wyoming on Thursday back at home.

Eagles Lose: 38 - 39
The Eagles suffered a tough loss in their only game of the Cornerstone Holiday Tournament. It was a back and forth affaire against Zeelend East where both teams battled hard on the defensive end making it challenging to get easy baskets. In the final minute, down three, the Eagles turned the Chix over resulting in a lay-up. With 15 seconds remaining, Lydia Sall knocked the ball back out of bounds in the full-court pressure. On the next possession, Jessica Larsen challenged the ball-handler into traveling giving the Eagles one last shot. The team executed perfectly out of a timeout, getting a shot off and fouled with 0.5 seconds remaining. Unfortunately, down one, the Eagles couldn't convert at the free-throw line. With no games this week, the ladies of Grand Rapids Christian will get back to work preparing for their next game, Tuesday, January 14 at Thornapple Kellogg.

Eagles Win: 31 - 30
The Eagles pulled out a 31-30 win at the Civic Center in Holland Friday afternoon. It was another balanced scoring attack where no players scored in double figures. Both teams played physically and wanted to play fast resulting in a great game all around. The Eagles play next at the Cornerstone Holiday Tournament on December 26.

Eagles Win: 40 - 24
The Eagles took to the court after an eleven day hiatus garnering a win against former City League rival, Catholic Central. Pressure defense was the calling card throughout the whole game tonight. Every Eagle contributed  when they stepped on the floor leading to a great team effort. In the first half, the Eagle defense held the Cougars to only 6 points, but they would battle back with a great run of their own in the third quarter. In the face of adversity, the team fought back holding their opponent to zero field goals in the fourth quarter.  It was another balanced scoring attack tonight. No player made it into double digits, but nine different Eagles scored. They were lead by Katelyn LaRue (9), Hannah Sall (8), and Lydia Sall (6).

Eagles Lose: 26 - 28
The Eagles traveled to Unity Christian for a well fought game against the Crusaders. The first quarter, the Eagles struggled to score both from the floor and the free throw line, ending with a score of 8 - 1 in favor of the home team. In the second quarter, however, the tempo shifted in Grand Rapids Christian's favor. Full court defense and fast breaks put the Eagles in command with a score of 15 - 10. The second half was a back and forth affaire with both teams pressuring full court. Entering into the final minute, Unity Christian capitalized on their trips to the free throw line giving them their first lead since the first quarter, which ended up as the final score, 28-26. Paris Rodgers played a big role gathering rebounds, steals, and scoring 9 points. Katelyn LaRue also scored 12 points for the Eagles.

Eagles Win: 58 - 17
The Eagles came out fast in the season opener scoring 18 points in the first half while their pressure defense held the Chargers of Powers Catholic to only four points. The second quarter was much of the same as strong team defense set the pace. Kailynn Grieve's aggressive defense led to many fast break opportunities for her teammates. In the second half, the Eagle's kept up their defensive effort and hustle diving for loose balls on both ends of the floor. Leah Stransky had the bench going wild with her and-one jump shot in the third quarter. All of the Eagles saw significant playing time with 11 of the 12 players making their way to the scoring column.
