Girls Freshman Basketball Falls to South Christian

Eagles Lose: 25 - 38
The Eagles competed in their last game of the season against a tough and tall Sailor team. The Eagles struggled to run with the Sailors to start and had a tough first quarter. However they fought back in typical fashion and had a lockdown second quarter. This was spurred by some contagious energy from Kaitlyn Aupperlee and Ginelle Moya. The Eagles rode on that energy until the end as they fought hard throughout. They were led tonight by Maaliyah Parks and Lauren Holkeboer both with 6 points. The girls played an awesome season against some good competition and have a lot to be proud of.

Eagles Win: 47 - 23
The Freshman Eagles came ready tonight getting off to a 23-0 start in the first quarter ended with a buzzer beater 3 by Ginelle Moya. The Wildcats came out ready to make some changes in the second and they were able to narrow the score a bit, but the Eagles did not give up! Kaitlyn Aupperlee held them together with some clutch shots down the stretch and great rebounds to get the ball down the court. The scoring was very even with a lot of unselfish basketball. Ariana Dusabe led the team with 11 points and 15 rebounds and Lauren Holkeboer also had 10 points in a very consistent performance. The Eagles will be back for their last game on Thursday at 7:00 at home!

Eagles Lose: 24 - 31
The Eagles had a tough loss to FHE Friday night as they faced a team they had previously beat at the buzzer. Both teams knew it would be a tough match-up yet the Eagles pulled away in the beginning with a big scoring second quarter. Ginelle Moya hit a 3 and got the crowd going. In the second half the Eagles struggled to convert on offense and ultimately fell to the Hawks. Maaliyah Parks had 7 points and led the team tonight.

Eagles Win: 45 - 34
The Freshman Eagles came ready to play tonight with an outstanding team performance. The Eagles faced the Pioneers for the second time this season after beating them by 1 the first time. The girls were able to get big defensive stops and to pass well on offense to find great shots. Hope Alvesteffer was nothing but net from 3 and had 11 points! She was followed closely by Flavia Karungi and Lauren Holkeboer both with 7. Kaitlyn Aupperlee also largely controlled the tempo on offense. For the second time this season everyone on the team scored! The girls return Friday at home against Forest Hills Eastern.

Eagles Lose: 34 - 41
The Eagles were short-staffed again with the flu bug in town, but fought a very intense 32 minutes against Spring Lake. The Eagles took an early lead with key jump shots from Kaitlyn Aupperlee and had Spring Lake in foul trouble early with great offensive drives. Emma Van Goor fought buzzer to buzzer for steals and ended the game with 14 points. The Eagles return Tuesday at home against East Grand Rapids.

Eagles Lose: 28 - 40
The freshman fought hard tonight coming from behind in an early 1st quarter deficit. Lauren Holkeboer strung together some steals and baskets to make for a very competetive second and third quarter. The Eagles could not hold on with a short bench and a lot of TK pressure. Emma Van Goor, Flavia Karungi, and Lauren Holkeboer each had 6 points and Maaliyah Parks led on offense with 8. The Eagles play Thursday night at 7:00 against Spring Lake.

Eagles Lose: 28 - 33
The Eagles had a close battle with the Bulldogs Friday night at GRC. Both had a low scoring first half, but the Eagles came out with some quick baskets in the 3rd. Ariana Dusabe fought hard until the end with 8 rebounds and 12 points. Lauren Holkeboer also forced a lot of turnovers with her aggressiveness, yet the Eagles came up just short of the Bulldogs. The next round of conference play starts on Tuesday as the Eagles host TK.

Eagles Lose: 29 - 41
The Eagles lost a close one to Covenant Christian tonight. With some early setbacks and a very defensively aggressive opponent, the girls struggled to take on Covenant's pressure. Flavia Karungi was able to contibute 10 points on offense and 10 rebounds to record her first double double. Ariana Dusabe was a big defensive presence and brought a lot to the game! The Eagles play back to back as they face Byron Center tomorrow at 4:30.

Eagles Lose: 23 - 46
The Eagles had a tough battle against South Christian with foul trouble very early on. The girls were able to play great defense in the 2nd quarter to keep it close, but then the Sailors started making some shots in the 2nd half. Hope Alvesteffer started the game with a big 3 to get the momentum going and Alexia Meeuwsen contributed 8 points to lead on offense. Lauren Holkeboer added 5 steals and many defensive rebounds. The Eagles will return next Thursday against Covenant Christian.

Eagles Win: 56 - 18
The Eagles were ready for a big team win from the start tonight with every player scoring on offense. The girls had great defensive pressure and ran a great fast break offense for most of the game. Emma Van Goor led the offensive front with 18 points, closely followed by Alexia Meeuwsen with 16. Maaliyah Parks handled the ball very well and had a beautiful 3 pointer. The Eagles return for a Thursday game this week against South Christian.

Eagles Win: 27 - 26
The Eagles had another photo finish Friday night in their second 1 point victory of the week. They fought back from being down for most of the game to dominating the fourth quarter. Flavia Karungi had 4 huge points in the 4th to tie the game and Ariana Dusabe had the game-winning free throw. Alexia Meeuwsen finished the game with 11 points followed by Dusabe with 8. The Eagles return Tuesday at home against Wayland.

Eagles Win: 36 - 35
The Eagles were able to come home with a huge team win Tuesday night at EGR. Coming into the 4th down 10, they knew they had some work to do. Lauren Holkeboer and Hope Alvesteffer made some big plays down the stretch and the team held the Pioneers to only one basket in the 4th quarter. Maaliyah Parks and Flavia Karungi both added big free throws in the 4th and Alexia Meeuwsen contributed the final game winner, sinking a free throw with 2 seconds left. Meeuwsen finished the game with 21 points, 13 of which were in the 4th. The Eagles return Friday night at Forest Hills Eastern.

Eagles Lose: 42 - 48
The Eagles fought a very tough battle Thursday and were able to fight back from an early deficit. The girls continued to attack the basket and found many ways to convert on offense. Lauren Holkeboer led the Eagles on offense with 12 points and Flavia Karungi and Maaliyah Parks also contributed 8 points each. The Eagles return for more conference play Tuesday against East Grand Rapids.

Eagles Lose: 20 - 25
The Eagles had a close game Tuesday night, but were not able to convert at the end to get the win. Emma Van Goor led the offense with 6 points and Maaliyah Parks also contributed 5. Dani Barton also had a big three to start the game. The freshmen return Thursday at 4:00 at Spring Lake for non conference play.

Eagles Win: 37 - 18
The Eagles came out on top to finish the Cornerstone invite this week. It was a well fought defensive effort and the girls were able to find a lot of points down the stretch in transition. Maaliyah Parks led the way with 12 points, Emma Van Goor had 10, and Lauren Holkeboer had 8. The freshman team has a long break from competition and will return with conference play on January 14th.

Eagles Lose: 25 - 47
The Eagles faced Forest Hills Central Friday morning in the Cornerstone Christmas Invite. The Eagles struggled offensively against a tall FHC team and were not able to convert on offense. Ginelle Moya brought intense pressure and Hope Alvesteffer, Emma Van Goor, and Maaliyah Parks helped the team with 6 points each. The Eagles return Monday morning at 9:00 against Zeeland East.

Eagles Lose: 33 - 53
The Freshman Eagles faced a very tough Holland Christian squad Friday evening. They found a deficit in the beginning, but played a wonderful second half scoring 20 points. Alexia Meeuwsen contributed big on offense with 8 points, 6 rebounds and 5 steals. Dani Barton also had 8 points and Lauren Holkeboer had 8 points, 9 rebounds, 2 steals and 3 blocks. The Eagles return in holiday tournament games on the 27th.

Eagles Lose: 24 - 34
The Eagles lost a hard and fast battle tonight against the Cougars of Catholic Central. The Eagles faced a tough press in the beginning of the game and managed to gather themselves and figure out how to break it. There were many strong defensive efforts, led by Lauren Holkeboer and Alexia Meeuwsen. Our leading scorer on offense was Hope Alvesteffer with 9, 3 of which being a "nothing but net" 3! The Eagles return Friday in Holland against the Maroons of Holland Christian at 4:30.

Eagles Lose: 31 - 46
The Eagles faced a very tough and very tall Unity Christian team Friday night. The girls started with a small deficit in the beginning but picked up their energy and began to close the gap as the game went on. Alexia Meeuwsen was the leading scorer once again with 12 points and Maaliyah Parks followed with 8. Flavia Karungi got the crowd going with her tenacity on the boards and Lauren Holkeboer contributed big on defense.

Eagles Win: 54 - 5
The freshman team came out strong tonight in a wonderful team win against Powers Catholic. The Eagles shot well across the board with 8 girls scoring, Alexia Meeuwsen led the charge with 16 and Maaliyah Parks followed with 12! Defensively the girls kept Powers from having many opportunities; Lauren Holkeboer had 7 steals and 4 rebounds and Ariana Dusabe had 4 steals and 5 rebounds. The eagles hit the road next to play Unity on Friday!
