Boys Soccer Seniors

We have asked each of our Seniors’ parents to share some thoughts about their son which will be read as they escort him to the center of the field.

Zander Scofield

Parents:  Thomas & Pam Scofield
It is a joy for us to watch you play this game. Soccer has been the single biggest thing in your life. We recall when you turned aside from promise in other sports, then from other positions on the pitch once you caught the fever of keeping goal. It has been your passion. Your drive led to the peak experience of being an integral part of a state championship team. What a thrill it was to share that day with you! How can we convey just how proud of you we are? We are proud to watch you make opportunities for yourself, not expecting life to be handed to you. We are proud of your commitment, of the way you accept responsibility, of the way you hold up your end because that enables a man to hold his head up. You have the tough exterior that accompanies many a success story, but also the heart that enables a man to love and be loved. We leave you with Proverbs that sum up our greatest hopes concerning you: "Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established. In all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."

Love, Mom, Dad, Benjamin and Sophia

Cooper Hutt

Parents: Justin & Allison Hutt
Years ago you made a conscious decision to become the best goalie you could be. And every year you have stayed committed to the grind—working hard, training in all seasons, and giving up many events and activities to travel for a sport you love. It has been pure joy to see you excel at soccer and even more exciting to see the person you are becoming, the man God is shaping you to be. This fall hasn’t been without hard decisions, but seeing you on the soccer and football fields with your teammates, representing your school, tells us you made the right ones. As you go off to college and make even more important choices, we pray you will pursue God as you walk through this life. Seek him and he will direct your path. We are so proud of you and can’t wait to see what the future holds!
Love, Dad, Mom, Davis and Natalie

Johnny Clarkin

Parents: Greg & Linda Clarkin
It has been such a joy to watch you compete in multiple sports over the last several years and succeed in all of them, except hockey! God has truly blessed you with many special gifts and it has been our pleasure to watch you use those gifts in special ways. We have watched you grow from the youngest, most adorable, ball boy at your older brother and sister’s games to a skilled player with many championships under your belt. To be honest, after being dragged to soccer games in your car seat, it’s a wonder you chose soccer at all. Your enthusiasm for life and your good nature are truly contagious. We love to watch you play and teach others to do so as well. Your entire family is very proud of the leader you have become and our anxious to see what God has in store for you as you graduate High school and move on to college.
Proverbs 16:9 “A man’s heart plans his way, but the LORD directs his steps.”
Love, Dad, Mom, Katie, Mark, Alexandra, Eddie, Jessica and your extended family

Alex Williams

Parents: Roman & Joelle Williams
Your love for soccer started as a U6 player in Manchester-By-The-Sea. Over the last 12 years, you played every position: you started out as a forward, then played goalkeeper well into middle school. We remember the Midwest tryout when you decided, all on your own, to see if you could earn a position as a midfielder—and you did! And with you on the back line your senior year, you seem to have played every position. We have enjoyed watching you develop as a person through a sport you love. You learned about the payoff of hard work and teamwork. You learned how to win and how to lose. You experienced the joy and importance of play. You learned courage and humility. And along the way, you learned quite a bit about life itself. We’re proud of you and thankful for the many ways the beautiful game has shaped you into a wonderful person. We look forward to seeing the many places, people, and experiences you encounter and impact along the way. And, Alex, as you journey, don’t forget who you are!
Love, Mom, Dad, Elizabeth & Isaac

Jonah & Aidan Knoester

Parents: Peter & Sara Knoester
We as your parents, and younger sister, have found it an honor to have front-row seats as you have grown and persevered over the years both on and off the soccer field. Your grit and determination have been evident from the early years of rec ball, to club ball and then on to high school.  Your travel team in Holland became family as we all mourned the tragic death of one of your teammates and best friends, Carter (a fellow twin).  Watching you grieve as a team and continue to play for Carter by wearing his number on your sleeves and switching your jersey color to his favorite color, was heartbreaking and inspiring. Being part of a team has taught you both so much about the game of soccer, but even more about life! We are so proud of you both, and look forward to seeing what God has in store for each of your futures.
Much love, Dad, Mom and Micah

Ian Velzen-Haner

Parents: Steve & Cindy Velzen-Haner
You have been in motion since before you were born; so it was no surprise when you began playing rec soccer at age 3 with the YMCA! Given the ”love at first goal” and your competitive nature, you began Club soccer in positions of striker and midfield on Crew /Mid-West United and Revolution. Yes, soccer was every season with Futsal, Soccer in the Sand, and Super Y! In our yard were soccer nets and cones and it was always fun to observe you challenging yourself to master various skills. And you would then challenge us to 1:1 drills and laugh when you “got past or nut megged us”. You have been a GRC Eagle since 5th grade! For 8 years we have cherished being on the sidelines and Stadium stands cheering on your Eagles team. Son, your passion, focus, determination, speed, and intuition are exceptional. You are able to read action on the field impeccably and execute shots and passes to teammates with precision. We notice your courage and tenacity when facing adversity – and respect you for showing up for yourself and your team. We are proud of you. We are grateful for this milestone of walking alongside you on your Senior Night. Being your parents is a gift from God we behold.
We Love You! Mom, Dad & Aunt Wendy

On behalf of the coaching staff, your teammates, and all the Eagle fans, thank you, Seniors for all the contributions you have made to the Eagle Soccer Program and Grand Rapids Christian High School. You have personified GRIT for our team this year. We are so proud of you and so excited for your future. Congratulations and GO EAGLES!
