Eagle fans, We recently had the special privilege of celebrating the contributions and accomplishments of our seniors on the Grand Rapids Christian Eagles Boys Varsity Soccer Team. We asked each of our Seniors parents to share some thoughts about their son. Will Bufalini Parents: Nathan and Jen BufaliniWillie B.--What a ride it has been watching you do what you love. At age 2, you told us you wanted to be a goalie. At age 14, you became a Grand Rapids Christian Eagle. Those decisions have had such a wonderful impact on our family. Soccer has taken us all over the country - turning your love of soccer into incredible memories for all of us. Soccer led you to Tim Howard, who was successful because of his differences and showed you a path to greatness. Soccer also brought you a sense of belonging and understanding that hard work pays off in all of the best ways. Your faith and your curiosity about Jesus have grown so much in the past few years, and we l

The MHSAA has done a great job of continuing to work to help find balance in athletics by creating breaks in the seasons for athletes and coaches to be with their families. We love working hard to develop our gifts but appropriate scope is important also. Summer Dead Week: June 30-July 7- this is the actual dead week where there is zero contact between players and coaches and no use of district facilities. Pre-Season Down Time: the week prior to each season there is "down time" where there are no open gyms or captains practices. Only 4-player workouts and conditioning are permitted. You can find our official athletics start dates for 2024-2025 here!

Over 100 football and basketball officials have retired/resigned in the West Michigan area just this year. In addition, the girls and boys basketball schedule is compacted such that they are playing 3 days a week. Officials have gone from officiating 2 days a week to 5 and sometimes 6 days a week, with multiple games on each night. The number of high school athletics officials is becoming such that Freshman and JV games in a variety of sports may need to be officiated by coaches. The MHSAA needs more officials. Why should you consider be an MHSAA official? Ace Corey has been officiating for 15 year and this is what he had to say: It’s a great way to give back to the game that gave so much to me. I get to be a part of a team. It’s great for my physical health. It’s the best seat in the house. It’s great to work with kids and see their joy in what they are passionate about. Despite some other quality chances, the half would end 1-0 for the Eagles. The second half started brightly for the visitors, yet they could not find the back of the net to claim the insurance goal. This would prove costly as the Eagles conceded two goals in the second half to take the 2-1 loss on the road. The Eagles return to the pitch on Monday when they visit Ottawa Hills for a 5:45 kickoff.

At doubles, Banks McNinch and Sam Vandersloot played a fantastic match against a very tough opponent at the #1 spot. Boys Varsity SoccerThe Varsity Eagles visited the Cougars from Catholic Central for another league match. The Cougars would strike first, with a nifty combination play from their skilled attackers leading to a goal just minutes into the match. The Eagles would respond, however, when Emmett Vance smashed home yet another free kick goal to add to his growing tally. In spite of some good chances, the Eagles would not find the go-ahead goal in the first half as the half ended 1-1The Eagles resolved to be more individually responsible in the second half and to display the GRIT we so often reference. This renewed focus led to a more consistently positive half where we attacked well and stayed organized and disciplined defensively. The result would be two well-created goals when Vance played through John Cassiday, who slotted a goal past the keeper and when Liam Jansen fed Peter Borst on the left flank, which led to the Eagles third goal on the night. The defense was called
