Celebrating Our Girls Lacrosse Seniors!
#2 Miriam KuperusParents: Laura and Casey Kuperus. Miriam’s favorite memories are the bus rides with her teammates blasting music and getting food with them after games. She wants to thank her dad for being a part of the program with her for the past 4 years as the JV coach, her mom for always showing up and supporting her at her games no matter how cold it is, her grandparents for attending so many of her games and lastly, she wants to thank her teammates that she has been able to play lacrosse with for so many years. Next year she will attend Belmont University to study Nursing. MHSAA Announces 2025-2026 School Year Classifications
Classifications for Michigan High School Athletic Association elections and postseason tournaments for the 2025-26 school year have been announced.Classifications for the upcoming school year are based on a second semester count date, which for MHSAA purposes was Feb. 12. The enrollment figure submitted for athletic classification purposes may be different from the count submitted for school aid purposes, as it does not include students ineligible for athletic competition because they reached their 19th birthday prior to Sept. 1 of the current school year and will not include alternative education students if none are allowed athletic eligibility by the local school district.All sports’ tournaments are conducted with schools assigned to equal or nearly equal divisions, with lines dependent on how many schools participate in those respective sports.For 2025-26, there are 754 tournament-qualified member schools. The MHSAA has done a great job of continuing to work to help find balance in athletics by creating breaks in the seasons for athletes and coaches to be with their families. We love working hard to develop our gifts but appropriate scope is important also.Summer Dead Week: June 29-July 5 — this is the actual dead week where there is zero contact between players and coaches and no use of district facilities.Pre-Season Down Time: the week prior to each season there is "down time" where there are no open gyms or captains practices. JV Eagles fall to Holland Christian 22-6
Girls Junior Varsity SoftballThe Eagles came out quickly in the second game of the night. With the help of four consecutive hits to score 3 runs. The Eagles scored another 2 runs in the second, and a 6th run in the third. The Eagles tallied 9 hits and 1 walk. Ava Worst and Reese Mersman led the charge with two hits a piece. Including a triple for Reese. Also getting hits were Ella Sifa, Trinity Brown, Hannah Compagner, and Collins Veldkamp. Alida Adkins toed the rubber for the start of the second game. Alida worked the first inning and 2/3, giving up 15 runs on 6 hits and 11 walks while striking out 2. Reese Mersman came in relief striking out a couple. The girls continue to play hard, and were encouraging throughout.JV Eagles next and final game is Wednesday, May 13 at home vs South Christian!

Girls Junior Varsity SoftballOn a beautiful Friday night the jv eagles traveled to Holland Christian to play a doubleheader. Leading off the game the Eagles were able to load the bases but couldn’t quite push a run across. With increased pressure the Eagles were able to generate a couple of runs in the third. It was nice to see the girls work hard at the plate, and they were able to generate 6 hits and 4 walks. Ella VanHorn led the way with two singles and a double. Ava Worst, Alida Atkins, and Trinity Brown also had singles. Lillian Wilke walked twice, and Ella Sifa and Layla Grice also contributed with walks. Reese Mersman took the mound for the Eagles, going all four innings. She gave up 16 hits and 7 walks while striking out 8.

Boys Freshman BaseballEast Grand Rapids built an early lead in the first inning and continued to add on in the following innings. The Eagles continued to compete throughout and were able to generate offense, highlighted by a two-RBI performance from LJ Chandler.Offensively, GRC collected seven hits with contributions across the lineup, as Krosschell, Snyder, Mulder, Petracek, Brower, Gurley, and Chandler each recorded a hit and continued to build quality at-bats.On the mound, Luke Mersman got the start and battled through 2.1 innings, while the pitching staff worked to stay aggressive in the zone and get ahead of hitters.

Girls Varsity TennisOur GRC Eagles took on Forest Hills Northern after rain caused us to reschedule. The team turned in a strong overall performance highlighted by several decisive singles victories. Henley battled through a competitive opening set before taking control in the second, while Ida and Avah each earned convincing straight-set wins with consistent play throughout their matches. Anwen showed tremendous resilience, rallying after dropping the first set to win a tightly contested second-set tiebreak before closing out the match in a dominant super tiebreak. In doubles action, Anneka and Anna delivered a steady straight-set win, and Charline and Olivia fought through a dramatic back-and-forth match to secure an exciting super tiebreak victory. Boys Varsity VolleyballGrand Rapids Christian hosted Kalamazoo Christian on Thursday night for a non-conference match against the visiting Comets. The Eagles treated their home crowd to an impressive display of offensive firepower, tallying 47 kills and 12 service aces in a 25-18, 25-9, 25-17 victory. Directing the offense was setter Eli Wise, who finished with 35 assists, and added 8 digs, 4 kills, and 2 service aces. Alex Nelson and Constantine Kim each recorded double digits in kills, with 15 and 10 respectively. Grand Rapids Christian returns to conference play next Tuesday with games against Unity Christian and Caledonia.

Boys Junior Varsity VolleyballHaving one match at home this week, the boys JV volleyball team is anything but rusty. The Eagles dominated the match against Kalamazoo Christian from the start with aggressive non-returnable serves winning 25-13, 25-10. The team only had 7 service errors the entire match and pounded in 16 aces. Leading the team in aces was freshman Kingston-Cortez-Smith with 5. Following closely behind were Lincoln Leatherman and Bryce McKee both with 3 aces. Freshmen setter, Owen Vander Meyden did very well spreading the offense with 11 assists. Stepping up on defense was freshman Judah Watrous. Judah was popping up hits in the back row when the team needed to stop Kalamazoo Christian's scoring runs.Up next is the Eagles final tournament Saturday in Grand Haven at the JV Lakeshore Classic Invitational. Boys Varsity GolfThe 18 hole Jamboree yesterday was actually two separate 9 hole matches. In the first nine hole match the Eagles placed second to Catholic Central. In the second nine hole match the Eagles placed 5th. The league has one more jamboree left before conference tournament, at Indian Trails on Tuesday. Catholic Central has a big lead for the conference title with the Eagles in second place.

Girls Varsity LacrosseThe Eagles faced off with the Grandville Bulldogs in Wednesday night’s competition and celebrated another victory as the team was firing on all cylinders. The Eagles’ offense was led by Piper Slagboom, who scored a total of 7 goals on the night while adding 1 assist and 12 draw controls. Chloe Pegman netted 1 goal, while Maddox Veldkamp found the back of the net 3 times and assisted on 4 other Eagles goals.Junior Hannah Kits also had a strong performance, scoring 5 goals and recording 4 draw controls to help the Eagles continue their dominance in possession.Defensively, the Eagles held the Bulldogs to just 2 goals the entire game, limiting their offensive opportunities throughout the night. Ashley Overway, Katelyn Raak, Brooklyn VanDyke, and Macey VanderWal each recorded multiple caused turnovers to give the Eagles more possession time.The Eagles celebrated the 16-2 victory and now look ahead to Friday night as they travel to DeWitt for another competition.

Girls Junior Varsity LacrosseThe JV Eagles girls lacrosse team played Hudsonville on Monday evening and had great weather and lots of energy. However, unfortunately the girls lost 1-15 in a hard-fought battle. While the game didn’t end the way the Eagles would have hoped, it was an incredibly hard fought battle. Esther King had 15 saves in net—a 50% save percentage! Her hard work throughout the game was a huge help to the Eagles! Additionally, the Eagles fought hard for ground balls. Georgia Mersman, Hannah Mockabee, and Mallory Jabara each had three groundball pickups, Lucy Deboer and Neve Winstanley each had two, and Brooklyn Vandyke, Liz Nienhuis, and Mikayla Wolters had one. Even in the midst of a challenging opponent, the Eagles were still willing to battle hard for every ball. This sort of dedication is incredibly admirable and often hard to find. Despite the disappointing loss, the game was incredibly fun and competitive. Myah Alkema and Esther King both played goalie for a half and each had four saves. This successful time in net allowed the Eagles to stay within striking distance of the lead at all times. Girls Varsity SoftballThe Eagles used a huge 10-run third inning to power past Catholic Central Varsity Cougars 18-3 on Wednesday.Jaslene McWilliams earned the win for the Eagles, allowing five hits and three runs (one earned) over four innings. She walked none.The Eagles’ offense stayed hot throughout the game, finishing with 15 total hits in the win. McWilliams went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead the offense. Greta Holman collected three hits and drove in three runs, while Alexis Willis drove in three runs on two hits. Simpson added two hits in four at-bats. Brecken Cole, Rae Cummings, Reese Mersman, and Karina Mora each added one hit. The Eagles also showed patience at the plate, drawing five walks, led by Karina Mora and Leech with two each. The Eagles held strong defensively and even turned a double play when Nahla Simpson caught a line drive at shortstop and then picked the runner off at third.The Eagles’ next matchup is at home against West Catholic on Saturday starting at 10 a.m.

The Eagles rallied late by scoring on a single and three ground outs to cut into the lead.Rae Cummings took the loss for the Eagles. The starter went seven innings, surrendering 12 runs (seven earned) on nine hits, striking out 10 and walking nine.Jaslene McWilliams reached base in all four of her plate appearances, recording three hits and a walk while driving in two runs. Greta Holman provided a spark in the middle of the lineup, driving in a team-high four runs. Boys Varsity VolleyballGrand Rapids Christian returned to form on Tuesday night in a Conference Tri with Caledonia and host Kelloggsville. In their opener against Kelloggsville, the Eagles offense erupted for 27 kills (hitting eff. 0.357) and 12 service aces in a 25-9, 25-8 rout. Jack Scholten led the way with 5 kills and 0 hitting errors. Gideon Cebulski and Braden Brouwer added 5 kills and 4 kills respectively. Alex Rakotomalala had 5 service aces. Hassenrik would then provide the helper as she slotted a pass to Hazel Vance, who played a perfect first touch and then smashed one past the keeper to stake the Eagles to a 2-0 lead. Those roles would flip near the end of the half as Vance played the perfect ball to Hassenrik, who beat the keeper to the ball and poked it into the goal to give the Eagles a comfortable 3-0 lead at the break. The Eagles were content to sit back a bit in the second half and let their defensive organization do its job.

Boys Freshman BaseballThe Eagles set the tone early and continued to build momentum throughout the game, putting together multiple big innings, including a five-run second and a five-run fourth to take control.Offensively, the Eagles totaled 13 hits and showed a balanced attack across the lineup. Josiah Gurley led the way with three hits and four RBIs, while Easton Kehoe also collected three hits and scored three runs. LJ Chandler added a strong performance with two hits, three RBIs, and three runs scored as the group consistently applied pressure.On the mound, Josiah VanderWerf delivered an efficient start, striking out six over 2.2 innings, while Kehoe added a solid relief outing to help close things out.The Eagles also stayed aggressive on the bases and continued to compete across all areas in a complete team performance.
