2023 Girls Lacrosse Seniors

Annika DeKraker

Parents: David and Megan DeKraker
Annika is one of our captains and has played lacrosse for the past four years. After graduation she plans to attend the University of Michigan for Neuroscience and Spanish on a pre-med track.  Annika has two moments in the last four years that stand out to her.  One is her first game as a goalie when the entire team came running to hit her helmet in congratulations, and the second is this year when she scored her first varsity goal. Her favorite Bible verse is Psalm 18:28 “You, Lord, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light.”  This verse has been a word of encouragement to her about God’s work in her life.

Bree Lane

Parents:  Stacie and Andy Marsman.
After graduation she plans to attend a 4-year college as an undecided major.  She has played lacrosse for the last three years and is a co-captain this year.  Bree’s favorite lacrosse moment is from this season, finding out that her Coach Casey’s first name is actually Cornelius.  Her favorite verse is Ecclesiastes 1:9. “What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun” This verse is special to Bree because Ecclesiates is her favorite book of the Bible and this specific verse reminds her that nothing is new, and that God knows everything that has, and will happen.  Nothing can surprise Him.

Kidist Nelson

Parents: Michael and Tricia Nelson
She will be going to Indiana Wesleyan University to study Elementary Education.  Kidist is an all-around athlete who is new to lacrosse this year. Kidist’s favorite memory from this season so far is her first goal against Zeeland. Her favorite ible verse is Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”  This verse is special to her because she knows that no matter what goes on in her life, God is with her every step of the way, and that he has a plan for her life and she should always trust Him.

Ava Lynn Roossien

Parent:  Julie Roossien
Ava Lynn has been involved with Lacrosse for 10 years.  After graduation she plans to attend Belmont University for International Business and Entrepreneurship. Ava Lynn’s favorite lacrosse memory is from her first year playing in first grade.  She and her friend were excited to be playing lacrosse but were crying out of fear on the way to their first game.   About 5 minutes into the game, she and her friend each scored back-to-back goals and were instantly in love with the sport! Her favorite Bible verse is Deuteronomy 31:8. “The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you. He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” This verse reminds her that she is never alone even when she feels like it.

Ally Samuels

Parents: Kristi and Scott Samuels
Ally is new to lacrosse this year and has shown great leadership as one of our captains.  After graduation she plans to attend Michigan State for Art Education and Spanish.  Ally’s favorite lacrosse memory is practicing ground balls when Coach Casey and Coach Kristin decided to join in! Although she feels badly that Coach Casey may have hurt his back while doing so. Her favorite Bible verse is Romans 12:12 “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”  She appreciates its simple meaningful message of what it means to follow God.

Sara Tunc

Host Parents: Jessica and Ryan Cook
After going back to the Netherlands this spring, she plans to attend the Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences to study Nursing. Her favorite lacrosse memory from this season is when both teams had milkshakes together after practice and chatted about their week. A Bible verse that has resonated with her is John 16:22. “So you have sorrow now, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one can take your joy from you.”
