Eagle fans,

We have to say good-bye to Aric Dershem as our varsity boys soccer coach as he moves out to the East Coast to take a job in New York City. Aric has been an exemplary coach for GR Christian and will be missed tremendously by players, parents, fans and all of us here in the athletic department.

Aric has served and mentored our children faithfully as a Christian coach and we have been blessed by his gifts of organization, leadership, character building and faith formation, in addition to being a tremendous soccer coach. We are so thankful for his time here and pray for God's Blessings on Aric and Marie in this new adventure. You can see Aric's letter to the soccer parents and players here.

We will begin the search for a new boys varsity soccer coach immediately.

Here is Coach Dersh's email to the team and their families:

Hello Eagle Soccer Families,

I hope this email finds you well. Today, I have an important announcement to share regarding the GRCHS soccer program.

I met with the boys at Focus Time today to let them know that I will be stepping away from the GRCHS soccer program. In October, I learned that the company I worked for was being acquired, resulting in the elimination of all the jobs in our global headquarters office, including mine. While I hoped to find a role locally that would allow me to continue coaching at GRCHS, I was unsuccessful in doing so. Meanwhile, I was presented with an amazing career opportunity that involves relocation, which I will be accepting this week.

Leaving this group of young men and this program was one of the most difficult aspects of this decision. I love these boys and the program we have built. While I am deeply saddened to be stepping away from this aspect of my life, I feel blessed by the relationships formed over the past 7 years in the program and by the memories we have made together on and off the field.

I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to the players for their unwavering commitment to our GRIT values and the program. Your dedication has been inspiring. I also want to thank the coaches who have dedicated countless hours to this work; your passion and expertise have made a lasting impact. Additionally, I am grateful to the Athletic Department for the constant support and resources they provide to create an outstanding athletic experience for the students at GRCHS.

Most importantly, I want to thank my wife, Marie, for her unwavering support and encouragement throughout these years. Her sacrifices have enabled me to dedicate my time and energy to the Eagle Soccer Program.

I am confident that Mr. Heerema and the Athletic Department will select a great leader to serve as the next head coach for the Boys' Soccer program. I hope that they feel supported by the prayers and encouragement of parents and players as they begin this process in earnest.

Thank you all for allowing me the honor of leading this program. I am grateful for the memories we've shared and the growth we've experienced together. As always, GO EAGLES!

Warm regards,

Aric Dershem
