Paige Ferwerda
Parents: Ben and Allison Ferwerda.
Paige has played basketball in the program for four years with three of those on varsity. She also participated in track and field each year and is a member of NHS. Her favorite memory was winning the district finals her sophomore year. Next year Paige is going to attend Wheaton College to play basketball and major in nursing.
Her favorite verse is Joshua 1:9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid, do not be discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Her teammates want to add that Paige has left a huge impact on not only our team but the entire basketball program. She is caring, always positive, and an incredible basketball player. As a captain she is a great leader on the team, who leads with grace, humility, and an unwavering commitment to making everyone around her better. Paige’s presence is something we all cherish and we can't wait to see the amazing things she will continue to do at Wheaton College.
Cassidy Holtz
Parents: Trudy and Ryan Holtz.
Cassidy played 4 years of basketball, 2 years of lacrosse and one year of track and field. Her favorite basketball memory was going to the Hope and Grand Valley camps in the summers. She loved spending time at these camps with her teammates and having fun with them while also playing basketball. She is thankful to her parents for being great supporters and her coaches for teaching her so many things, and especially to her teammates for being some of her best friends and making basketball fun. Next year she will attend Liberty University to study biomedical sciences.
Her favorite verse is John 13:7 “you do not realize now that I am doing, but later you will understand.”
Her teammates want Cassidy to know that she has played a huge role in our team community. She is encouraging, kind, and overall an enthusiastic person to be around. She shows great leadership skills, always works hard, and keeps the team in check. Cassidy’s impact on all of us is undeniable and we all value her commitment to GRCHS basketball. We’re so excited to see the incredible things she will accomplish at Liberty University.
Ellie VandeGriend
Parents: Andy and Becca VandeGriend
We also want to give a shout out to one of the team managers, Ellie VandGriend. Ellie has been involved in basketball as a player or manager throughout her high school years. Her teammates want her to know that although she didn't play on the court, she still had a huge impact on the team. Her presence at practice and games made a huge difference for us by bringing energy, enthusiasm, and joy. We are so grateful for Ellie and all that she does. We look forward to seeing her continue to do great things at Calvin University.
From Coach VanSwol:
We are fortunate to be able to celebrate our seniors! They have set a high standard for hard work, dedication, and selflessness, always putting their teammates before themselves. Their impact on our program goes beyond the scoreboard. They have helped to shape the culture of our team with their character and commitment. We are grateful for their presence in Eagle Basketball, and we know their futures are bright, because of the kind of people they are.
