Brink, Jeff (2019)

Jeff Brink graduated from Grand Rapids Christian High in 1996. Upon his arrival at GRCH he made an immediate impact on the tennis program, playing the #1 singles position on the team for all four of his high school years. He was named to the All-City Team each year, winning the league championship at #1 singles all four times. Jeff was also the Regional Champion in his sophomore, junior, and senior seasons. In those same three years he was named to the All-State Tennis Team. In his senior year he finished second in the state at #1 singles. Over his high school career, Jeff won 83 of his 94 matches for an amazing win percentage over 88%. Jeff’s coach while at GRCH was Hall of Fame member Ken Zandee.

Jeff went on to a highly successful tennis career at Western Michigan University, a school nationally known for the strength of its tennis program. Jeff led the Bronco team to two Mid-American Conference championships and its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament. He was named the tennis team MVP his senior year. Jeff earned the WMU Scholar-Athlete of the Year in his junior and senior years, the same years in which he was named a GTE Academic All-American.

Upon graduation from WMU with a Bachelor of Science degree, Jeff went on to the University of Michigan Dental School. He graduated in 2004 near the top of his class and was inducted into the “Omicron Kappa Upsilon” Dental Honors Society.

One of Jeff’s favorite memories of his tennis days at GRCH was of his freshman year. Jeff says, “As a freshman, I was very skinny and well under 5 feet in height. Prior to the start of all team competitions, the players from the two teams would line up in order from 1stsingles down to 4thdoubles. Our team’s #2 singles player at the time was a 6-foot 2-inch senior with significant facial hair. When I would take my position at the front of our team’s line, the players from the other team would consistently get a smirk on their faces and they would start chuckling with the assumption that the young freshman was confused and standing in the wrong position. After the introductions were completed, I would let my racket do the talking.”

Jeff is currently the owner of Lakeview Dental located in Whitmore Lake, MI. Jeff and his wife Amy have three children, Ethan, Caleb, and Genevieve.

Jeff’s Favorite Scripture:  Proverbs 3:5
Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding.
