Scholten Christiansen, Heather (2025)

Heather (Scholten) Christiansen is a 2003 GRCH alumna who excelled in golf and tennis. Heather played four seasons of varsity golf and two of varsity tennis. She played two seasons of golf for Coach Glen Boelema, two for Coach Seth Davies, and two seasons of tennis for Coach Melinda Breslin.

In golf, Heather was the team MVP and captain her sophomore, junior, and senior years.  She was selected to the All-City and All-Area Teams all four seasons, earned All-State honors in three of her seasons, and was a member of the Academic All-State team all four years.

As a golfer, Heather was a four-time City League Conference Medalist and three-time Regional Medalist.  She qualified for the MHSAA Division 2 State girls golf tournament all four years. As a freshman, she led the team in individual scoring, and the Eagles qualified for the State Tournament for the first time in school history.  As a sophomore, Heather qualified for the State Tournament as an individual, only the second Eagle to do so in school history.  As a junior, she was undefeated in all competitions (matches, tournaments, and invitationals) until she finished runner-up at the State Tournament with scores of 77 and 73 for a tournament total of 150.  As a senior, Heather was the Medalist in the MHSAA Division 2 state girls golf tournament with scores of 77 and 85 for a tournament total of 162. Heather was also a two-time selection to the MHSAA All-Girls Super Team (selected across all divisions within the sport of girls golf) in 2002 and 2003.

Among Heather’s favorite memories are the first high school tournament of each season at the Ludington Invitational which included a team overnight stay and lots of bonding and memories to start the season off together. Heather was instrumental in making sure the team had fun together, but as the team leader, she also made sure they practiced hard and were mentally prepared for each match and tournament.

After graduation from GRCH, Heather went on to play Division I Varsity Golf for four seasons at Northwestern University. She was a four-year letter winner, improving her scoring average each season from her freshman year to her senior year. Her best collegiate score was a round of 71 which earned an 18th-place finish in the Big Ten Championship match. In her junior year, Heather was honored with the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award, and in her senior year she received the Northwestern Scholastic Achievement Award for excellence in athletics and academics. In all but her freshman year, Heather was a Big Ten Academic Award winner.

Heather and her husband Scott live in Wheaton, Illinois, where she is a Physical Therapist. They have two daughters, Elyn and Leah, and one of Heather’s hobbies is cheering on her daughters in their sports. Heather also enjoys running, reading, yoga, travel, and (of course) golf.

Favorite Scripture: Romans 8:28

And we know that in all things

God works for the good of those who love him,

who have been called according to his purpose.
