Grand Rapids Christian boys varsity basketball team tipped off the season in great fashion getting their first win over the South Christian Sailors.  The atmosphere was great after an overtime win by the Eagles varsity girls basketball team.  It was the first time for many of the Eagles to play in front of a crowd due to the pandemic.  However, they stepped up to the challenge and competed against a very good South Christian team. 

The nerves were high to start the game but the Eagles settled down and finished the 1st quarter with a 18 - 15 point lead.  The Eagles controlled the tempo in a very close game throughout leading at halftime 28 - 25. It was a defensive battle in the first half which, the Eagles will continue to build on during the season.  It was a great team effort from the Eagles with a final score of 66 - 58.

The Eagles were led by senior Delon McCloud who scored 21 points.  Senior Brandon Schepel gave the Eagles a boost with 11 points while Jasiah Rainey and Dono Thames both chipped with 9 points apiece.  The Eagles will go back to the drawing board to prepare for Friday's home game versus Catholic Central.
