Girls Varsity Basketball Narrowly Falls to South Christian

2.0 weeks ago @ 8:24AM

In a hard-fought battle on the court, the Grand Rapids Christian Eagles were defeated by the South Christian Sailors, 53-65, in a high-energy matchup. Despite a strong team performance in their first game, the Eagles fell just barely to a very balanced Sailor team.

Paige Ferwerda led the charge for the Eagles with a stellar 25 points, adding 5 steals and 5 rebounds to her stat line. Her all-around performance kept the game within reach. Charley Hassenrik also played a pivotal role in the Eagles' defensive efforts, contributing a team-high 6 steals and applying constant pressure on the Sailors' offense. Her defensive intensity was crucial in forcing turnovers and disrupting South Christian's flow. On the offensive end, Mags Cumming was a bright spot for Grand Rapids Christian, displaying her sharpshooting ability with 17 points, including 5 key three-pointers that kept the Eagles in the game. Team rebounding was another huge factor as the Eagles led the second half in that category.

However, the Sailors' ultimately won the day. It was a very impressive first game for our Eagles and is just the beginning of what they can accomplish this year.
