Boys Varsity Cross Country Takes 2nd at the Portage Invite

The Portage Invitational is one of the largest cross country meets in the Midwest. Over 10,000 athletes, spectators, and coaches attend this huge event. Out of the 52 teams in the D2 race, our varsity team, led by Simon Triezenberg's 4th place finish, placed 2nd to a strong Allendale team. The usual cast of Keegan Hoekstra (33rd), Sean Ryan (35th), Ashton Fink (40th), and Micah Small (44th) rounded out the scorers for our team all running between 16:29 and 16:39.
In the JV race, our Eagles took 4th place a mere 4 points behind 3rd and 5 points behind the 2nd place team. An unfortunate mid-race injury to Isaiah Lindstrom prevented our team from also taking home a 2nd place finish. Still, 5 Eagles took home medals for placing in the top 50: Elias DeJonge (3rd), Jacob Voetberg (6th), Calvin Brinks (11th), Sam DeYoung (29th), and Jonathan Falk (36th).
The Eagles are back in action at Gainey on Saturday when we host the Kent Ottawa Invitational.
