FOREST HILLS NORTHERN HIGH: 2
The varsity Eagles soccer team traveled to Huskies Stadium at Forest Hill Northern Tuesday evening. The Eagles were primed to play against their OK White foes and started quickly, netting the first goal of the match just 37-seconds after kickoff on a long range shot by junior Nick Cassiday. After the quick start, the Huskies and Eagles settled into the match. The Huskies fought back leveling the score at 1-1 about 20-minutes into the match on a free kick over the Eagles defensive wall that found the top corner of the net. The Huskies struck again a few minutes later on a ball played back to a Huskie attacker that again found the top corner of the net. The Eagles responded quickly. 31-minutes into the match, Cassiday served in a free kick to a streaking Grant Hassenrik who slipped a header past the Huskies goalkeeper to level the score at 2-2. With the clock winding down in the first half, junior Alex Terry took the ball to the FHN end line and slotted a pass back across the goal where Hassenrik was able to tuck it away, giving the Eagles a 3-2 lead at the half. The Eagles came out strong in the second half, controlling the play and creating chances. With 7 minutes to play, senior Adrian Boyden served in a corner kick for the Eagles and junior Ben Kuiper was able to head the ball into the Huskies net for the insurance goal. The Eagles finished the match with 18 shots and a 4-2 victory. The win sets up a match against two undefeated teams on Thursday night at Eagle Stadium with East Grand Rapids. The match is scheduled for a 7:30 kickoff and will be streamed on Facebook Live.
