HOLLAND HIGH SCHOOL: 3
The Eagles regular season came to a conclusion on Thursday evening by hosting a tough Division 2 rival from Holland High School (10-1). The non-conference match pitted two of the top-ranked teams in Division 2 under the lights.
The Eagles jumped on the Dutch early, converting their initial attempt at goal in the first minute of the match on a strike in the box from freshman Ben Hart. The Dutch responded 9 minutes later, converting a penalty kick after a Holland player was fouled in the Eagles penalty area. The 1-1 halftime score was broken midway through the 2nd half when Holland sent a corner kick into the Eagles box. After an initial clearance, the ball ended up on the foot of a Dutch attacker who fired the ball into the upper corner of the Eagles net. As the Eagles pressed for an equalizer, the Dutch attacked from the wings and were rewarded when a cross was accidentally deflected into the Eagles goal by an Eagle defender (own goal), leaving the score 3-1. The Eagles pressed forward, but were unable to convert in the final minutes of the match. The loss is the first for the Eagles in the 2020 campaign.
The Eagles enter next week's OK White conference tournament as the #1 seed and will host Greenville on Monday evening at Eagle Stadium (7:45 pm). The game will be streamed on Facebook Live.
