The Boys Varsity Soccer Team traveled to Wyoming Kelloggsville (10-3-1) in a District Semi-final match-up on Tuesday afternoon. The Eagles came out firing in the first half, controlling the ball 60% of the time and getting 13 shots off. The scoring started when junior Ben Kuiper played a ball through to junior Nick Cassiday in the 24th minute of the match. With the Eagles still pushing forward, junior Drew DeBoer dribbled deftly into the penalty area before being fouled by one of the Rockets' defenders to earn a penalty kick fo Eagles. Cassiday stepped up and converted putting the Eagles up 2-0 at the half. The Rockets came out firing and playing with nothing to lose in the 2nd half, netting a goal back early in the 2nd half, then capitalizing on an unlucky play by the Eagles defenders to tie the game up midway through the second half (2-2). The Eagles respnded with 11-minutes remaining as Cassiday took the ball past several Rocket defenders and finished the game-winning shot to complete his hat-trick. The drama continued to the very end of the match as a last minute free kick saw all 11 Rockets push forward for a long-ball launched in front of the Eagles goal, but senior goalkeeper Anton Dershem came through the crowd to punch the ball away as the final seconds ticked-off the clock. With the 3-2 victory, the Eagles advance to the District Final against local and OK White rival, East Grand Rapids on Thursday evening (6:00 pm) at East Grand Rapids Memorial Stadium.
