The Boys Varsity Soccer team traveled to the Lowell to take on the Red Arrows in the final regular season OK White match. The Eagles entered the match with a four game win streak and hoped to extend that and finish the OK White regular season on a high.
The Eagles took control of the tempo in the game early, moving the ball in possession and finding space behind the Red Arrow defense. The Eagles broke through midway through at the 15-minute mark when senior Jackson Mindling played a pass through the Lowell defense to junior Peter Borst, putting him behind the defense where he beat the goalkeeper, slotting the ball into the far post. The Eagles continued to knock on the door throughout the half, holding the Red Arrows at bay with solid defense and strong control in possession. The Eagles went into the half with a 1-0 lead.
The scoring continued for the Eagles 10-minutes into the 2nd half when the Eagles quickly setup for a corner kick. On the corner Borst floated a cross to the far post where senior Carter Goodyke neatly headed the ball over the Lowell goalkeeper to double the Eagles tally. Just minutes later Mindling found a pass through to Borst again, putting him one against one with the goalkeeper. Borst finished his chance to net his second of the match, giving the Eagles a 3-0 victory on the night. The Eagles out shot the Red Arrows 16-2 on the evening and posted their third straight shutout.
The Eagles return home for a non-conference match against Hudsonville Unity Christian on Thursday night (7:30 pm kick-off) before hosting the first round OK White tournament match next Monday in a rematch against Lowell.
