The Varsity Eagles visited the Cougars from Catholic Central for another league match.  The Cougars would strike first, with a nifty combination play from their skilled attackers leading to a goal just minutes into the match.  The Eagles would respond, however, when Emmett Vance smashed home yet another free kick goal to add to his growing tally.  In spite of some good chances, the Eagles would not find the go-ahead goal in the first half as the half ended 1-1

The Eagles resolved to be more individually responsible in the second half and to display the GRIT we so often reference.   This renewed focus led to a more consistently positive half where we attacked well and stayed organized and disciplined defensively.   The result would be two well-created goals when Vance played through John Cassiday, who slotted a goal past the keeper and when Liam Jansen fed Peter Borst on the left flank, which led to the Eagles third goal on the night.  

The defense was called on to stay attentive as the Cougar counter-attack was always dangerous.  The Cougars managed to claw their way back into the match with a goal with 8 minutes to play, but the Eagles maintained composure and saw out the match with a great challenge by Abel denDulk to prevent a goal and goal keeper Will Bufalini making a couple big saves late on to preserve the victory. 

The Eagles have a quick turnaround as they visit Jenison today at 6:45pm.
