The Varsity Eagles hosted the Hawks of Forest Hills Eastern in a conference matchup on Wednesday evening. The visitors would shock the home side with a goal just minutes into the match, but the Eagles stayed composed and showed a positive response with early goals of their own. The first would come from a Peter Borst centering pass that Liam Jansen pounced on to level the match at 1-1. Not long after, Borst would be taken down in the box to set up a John Cassiday goal from the ensuing spot kick. Borst would get himself on the scoresheet with a calm finish to the far post that eluded the sprawling Hawks' keeper. Liam Jansen would add another tally before the break with a blistering strike from the right flank to give the home side a 4-1 lead.
The Eagles would add to the scoreline in the second half with a Jansen strike from a set piece, completing his hat trick on the night. Emmett Vance made it 6 when he beat two defenders near the end line and laced one through the keeper. Will Bush would complete the scoring late when Arie Knol played an inch-perfect ball across the face of goal that Bush was able to scuttle across the line.
After the early miscue, the Eagle defense stood tall and Josh Dykema earned the win in goal.
The Eagles return to action tonight when they host South Christian at 7:30 on youth night at Eagle Stadium.
