The Varsity Eagles concluded the regular season by hosting the Cougars from Catholic Central. Similarly to the last matchup between the two teams, Catholic Central got off to a dream start with an early goal. The Eagles responded once again, however, as David Pontarelli headed home a Will Bush throw in to level the match.
The Eagles controlled much of the play in the second half and the pressure resulted in a John Cassiday goal that gave the home side a lead they would not relinquish as he beat a couple defenders and smashed one home through the keeper. Peter Borst would make it 3-1 when he was fouled from behind in the box and went on to finish the spot kick. Pontarelli would finish off the scoring when he poked home a goal from a Cassiday assist.
The Eagles begin the state tournament on Wednesday when they host Thornapple Kellogg for a 7pm match. Go Eagles!
