The Varsity Eagles hosted our neighbors from East Grand Rapids on a cold night for soccer.  The Eagles got off to a flying start when Charley Hassenrik headed home off a goalmouth scramble to stake the home side to a 1-0 lead midway through the first half.   The Eagles would see out the half with the lead due to strong defending and organization.   

The second half would feature more of the same with the Eagles defending well, absorbing pressure, and looking to counter on the Pioneers.   Despite some quality chances and much improved play in the attacking half, the Eagles were not able to find another tally.   The Pioneers would continue to press forward and their efforts resulted in a game-tying goal with around 10 minutes remaining.   The Eagles came close to finding the winner late on, but had to settle for a well-earned draw against a quality opponent.  

The Eagles return to play after spring break when they visit Jenison on April 16.
